Black Relationships : Whatever Happened To Courtship?

Courtship has been replaced by " Casual Dating " and the " Hook Up ". It could be argued that the over dependence on communicating thru cell phone texting (sexting) and the internet has taken the personal nature of courtship out of the equation

.

I agree with you, Kem. (ain't that scary?)

Not so much in our generation but definitely in the younger generation.

Young girls and guys unabashedly announcing that they "hooked up" with someone they hardly know, and for no good reason.

*smh*

Well, what is the main objective of "the chase"?

everything a man does, once he meets a woman he's interested in, is to get the woman.
the flirting
the teasing
all efforts to get her to say yes...to the:
dinner and dancing
picnics in the park
weekend movies
walks along the beach
the theatre
etc
etc
etc.
which leads to "get to know me" moments.

called courtship.

yes, social media has become another tool to be used in that effort, but social media can never replace courtships. granted, "the hookup," and "friends-with-benefits," has a foothold in sexual interactions, but when you get serious about a relationship, you're not looking for a hookup...and you don't want friends-with-benefits.

the chase encompasses those actions that's required to catch the object of your desires...when "hello" isn't enough to wow her, right off the bat. for those men who've forgotten what the chase is about, or what capturing the lady is about, you may as well hang them out to dry. for them, that's a wrap.

one man's opinion...from one who thoroughly enjoyed the chase.
