Just like I told you you must learn
It's calm yet wild the style that I speak
Just filled with facts and you will never get weak in the heart
In fact you'll start to illuminate knowledge to others in a song
Let me demonstrate the force of knowledge
    knowledge reigned supreme
The ignorant is ripped to smithereens
What do you mean when you say I'm rebellious
'Cause I don't accept everything that you're telling us
What are you selling us the creator dwellin' us
I sit in your unknown class while you're failing' us
I failed your class 'cause I ain't with your reasoning
You're tryin' make me you by seasoning
Up my mind with see Jane run, see John walk in a hardcore New York
It doesn't exist no way, no how
It seems to me that in a school that's ebony
African history should be pumped up steadily, but it's not
and this has got to stop, See Spot run, run get Spot
Insulting to a Black mentality, a Black way of life
Or a jet Black family, so I include with one concern, that
    You must learn
Chorus: Just like I told you, you must learn (twice)
I believe that if you're teaching history
Filled with straight up facts no mystery
Teach the student what needs to be taught
'Cause Black and White kids both take shorts
When one doesn't know about the other ones' culture
Ignorance swoops down like a vulture
'Cause you don't know that you ain't just a janitor
No one told you about Benjamin Banneker
A brilliant Black man that invented the almanac
Can't you see where KRS is coming at
With Elie Whitney, Holly Selosy, Grand Bill Woods
    made the walky-talky
    Lewis Latterman improved on Edison
Charles Drew did a lot for medicine
Garrett Morgan made the traffic lights
Harriet Tubman freed the slaves at night
Madame CJ Walker made a straightin' comb
But you won't know this is you weren't shown
The point I'm gettin' at it it might be harsh
'Cause we're just walkin' around brainwashed
So what I'm sayin' is not to diss a man
we need the 89 school system
One that caters to a Black return because
    You must learn
    Chorus

I know I don't much like Kris in the suit

    but anyway

this song speaks to all the contribuations african americans made to technology

they got a spot in "history"... by any means

in this time of my experience I use to bump this album....

while my "friends", and my "boyfriend David" would say i was a cornball

cause they use to listen to ra kim

    anyway

david becamse a stick up kid

    I got free

this was my favorite video, yo

see i wouldn't "study" history, i would day dream in those classes, memorize the answers cause i wanted to pass to play basketball, and then repeat the answer to give them the answer they were looking

    and i use to "rap"

this was the year a formed a "rap band" at my school, and i was the opening act, and after i got done everybody left, and the rock band that was the head liner felt bad

    they were my friends

then i ran for student council, and i didn't show up to give a "speech" and i won still, and my teacha was like, "i c u've won the popularity contest"

then my basketball coach was like "all my athletes play more then one sport", so i joined cheerleading and he got pissed

then i punched a few "white people" in the face, and they got in trouble

then i kicked the glass out the door cause they wouldn't give me my four dollars that i paid to get into a "dance" and wouldn't let me in the "dance", and told my mom they was suspending me cause i could've hurt myself

and the thing about it was i had transfered from a "public" school to a "catholic" school cause i had got beat up and my moms didn't want me to go back, but i went back cause "i didn't want to be no punk", and the principal called my moms, like get her, she don't belong here....

the girl her name was april, and i was like 12/13 and she was like 18

ironically enough i saw her years later, and some dude had broke her heart and she had gone madd crazy.... and i remember thinking "that's what u get"...... then i remember thinking "wow, forgive me".......

not for her fate, but feeling satisfied that "she got hers"....

    so actually i learned alot...

i use to hang with "west indian" chicks back then... and they went after ole girl for me, cause they were more her age... pulled out blades and everything

I know that only the memory of Kris exists, and he has given me many magical moments

I use to pretend Kris was my dad, and in many ways he is

He has been everything I have ever "thought" I needed

I am blessed beyond any blessing, and he is literally the Love that gives my heart a beat....

I've never been one to just go along with everything everyone says, and I never rejected anything Kris said

so I trust myself, but if corrections weren't necessary then we wouldn't be here

he said he would never break my heart and i said i know, that's why were here

and he said u are soooooo, and i cut him off, but he was gonna say

    passionate

i'm not madd, not at all

and i would never "leave" him so he don't gotta keep me here

and like I told Kris, if you can't just apologize to God, and forgiveness be as simple as that, then I don't know what God you talking to, cause it is that simple

u drag me down here, wake me up, and the answer is

    cause

    I Love You

    accept it, reject it

but i'm not staying here forever and ever
    ever and ever

I know a gay man when I see one, and I Love him, and I want him, and I wanna have his "babies", and take of him....

sex never made the man, just incidental, like money

and if i can't hit it, ain't no body gettin it

    ebonically speaking

and kool herc ain't my daddy, i ain't ya sister, and i ain't gay

just the way that it is

but I am in Love with a gay man, and I'll blow this ish up before i let anybody take him

    from me

    ya'll want to meditate

i mean the world is soooo hood u must always be ready to let it blow

i rather talk about peace but these rappers won't let me so here we go

I mean Every Good Boy Does Fine

    right

    oh well, i ain't a good boy

Kris is the only thing I have ever "noticed" on my own

and Imma keep that in my heart

and I'm already a better wife then anything he knows

cause he knows that if he wasn't a "rapper" these hoes would've never even gave him a second look

they don't care about his Mind

dude be floating over ya head, and u think u can "cheat" on him

so what happens when i decide i don't want to be seen anymore?

I mean i was wondering what he was hollaring and screaming about

    talking about i don't care, i don't care, u sleep wit a man u marry that man

well get otta my dreams and get into my car

i mean it's hard to believe that this ***** blowin ish up, over me

i mean it's just an illusion, but he ain't playin

and the funniest thing is, he ain't even gotta do all that

    he had me at

    hey, i'm teachin poetry

i mean they was trying to "kill" me cause they gay, that ish funny to me

    i'm going home man

YOU SEE THAT FAT ***** ALMOST KNOCK HIM DOWN

yeah, I was hooked on My Philosophy.. my cousin was DJ and he had all the
latest records so I followed him around and worked as his assistant.. carrying
crates and hooking up the equipment.. and spinning when he went to dance..
I feel fortunate that I grew up with conscious hiphop.. with folks trying to tell
you something.. even though we had NWA, nobody really took any of that
seriously.. but BDP, PE, Xclan, the whole "stop the violence".. "We are the
world" time.. we had Spike dropping bombs on the big screen with School
Daze, Do The Right Thing..everybody was trying to tell you something.. it
caused me to look deeper.. to read.. to study outside of what was in the
school house.. it led me to Francis Cress Wesling.. and Anthony Browder..
and Amos Wilson.. to Malcolm's autobio and his speeches.. it was a beautiful
time.. I bumped BDP all the way up through the live album.. then I latched
onto Bob Marley's music and message and began my reggae phase..

    me too....

i went to the store to buy sex and violence, but the graphic images on the cover, turned me off

and i was introduced to nwa by this italian cat that i went to catholic school wit

my first day there, i sat next to him, richard, and he was singin f the police

and we started talkin bout rap

he actually was the "dj" in the "rap band" and i remember him up there playin a cd and faking like he was cutting and scratchin and mixin

i had two dancers steve and mike and later added pat

and mike, he was really into me..... he liked me so much...

    he was from john ston.....

but after i made him popular at school, he started goin with joann

i'll never forget it.. i went into the cafeteria, and there's my dancers who use to be "not popular"

    sitting with the "in crowd".....

and u know what i was happy for them

i was always the "prettiest" so they say, and most "popular" girl at school

but i was friends with everyone

    i hung wit everyone

    i didn't do "cliques"

one time "stirling" called me a hoe, and i hid behind the door outside the cafeteria and punched him in his face

then latah my basketball coach called me to the office, and i started explaining, and he was like what u talking bout..

i was like oh, u were sayin

when i had to do papers for "science class" i use to go to the childrens section in the library, copy a book, and make a bibliography with books from the adult section

i'm left handed, and i was taking spanish, so i use to write the prayers in light light pencil, and trace over it the day of the test

no one questioned it cause left handed people usually appear to write different cause the notebooks are for right handed people

one time i wrote the answers on the side board, and we all copied the answers, the teacher didn't notice it til the end of the class and was like if u do that again im giving everyone an F

nobody told on me.. we were just laughing

and the truth is i wasn't even in that class... i use raise my hand on someone elses' name

cause i wanted to be in the class with my friends

and i mean i went to the class almost all year.......

for summer reading i had to read Black Boy, and a separate peace

and my teacher was like i wish u would've read a separate peace, cause i can tell u read the other book, because you comments and journal are passionate

so i got an A and F... but it averaged out....
