People often encourage Ki-Swahili, but given that most of the diaspora are West Africans and Ki-Swahili is East African . . ..

    What do you all think?

I think that Afraka is too large and that we are too diverse culturally for there to be "one main language". That's like locking us in a box! I speak Swahili...but I use that as a means of privacy with my family as well as to speak with others from Afraka who may know it. I think that if there is a main language that it should only be of use in the political circle.

Good question. I read a similar question at another site.
The afrikan world is large, no doubt. But just about any-
where in the world one goes we can kind someone who
speaks english. If 65-70% or the afrikan world agreed to
take an afrikan language a universalize it throughout the
afrikan world, that would be cool. Easier said than done,
of course. I don't say this to suggest that afrikan folks
around the world give up their first tongue.

We in the western world shouldn't give up english and or
spanish. The brothas and sistas in denmark shouldn't give
up dutch. Whichever it is, as I've said before (I believe it
was on a thread regarding afrikan language that skuderjaymes
created), as was suggest on the other site and I agree with it,
is that it comes with its own characters/script...

Exactly!!! Sisters and brothers have been through enough "gotta do this and gotta do that" enforced on them from colonialism to neocolonialism.

In Nigeria alone folks speak how many languages?

Let folks have their languages, as well as books and education in their indegenous tongue to preserve culture! A culture that has been under attack for thousands of years.

They already speak English or French, in their movies, politics and business arena, and hoepfully one day those languages will not be used internally but as mentioned an agreed upon African language.

Swahili is already the official language of the African Union. There's no need to change that. However, what we could and should change is the script that it is written in.

    Any ideas?

Hmmm.... Well...... Why not create a script for swahili?
Gather afrikan folk, young and old, around the world who
are artists linguistic experts and some other disciplines and
    work this thing out.

There are actually a few scripts already available. Most notable among them is the Bamum script of Cameroon.

One language as Lingua Franca (Swahili) but local languages respected. All unis will be required to teach in Swahili. Local study of other African languags should be encouraged.

Hey, that's cool. Take it and embellish on it, for certainly
we want afrikan folks throughout the afrikan world to make
    a contribution to this project.

Quite honestly, I was thinking about creating a script 'from scratch'.
