I'm involved in this After School Program at Brown Middle School. And I just wanted to share my poem that I wrote about my experiences. What I’ve learned from the twist and turns of Project Nobility, is a host of ideas from the MAAT, including love and respect of self along with honor and reliability. (See) I can rely on my kids to bring energy and synthesized issues of their day; they love to play games, easily memorize nicknames to let me know they do have a brain. Oh yes, my kids can think!! Let’s not get it twisted, for I’ve seen them break down complex concepts with ease and full comprehension. Now I admit, sometimes there is tension, leading me to my elders who remind me, that in life, there will always be some lessons that each side can learn from… Balance and Harmony— I learn from them and them from me, let me take this time to thank the adults, parents, and staff of Project Nobility. For you are my system of support, you’re like my Johnny Cochran when I go to court; or that Ace of Spades in the last hand, collecting the books, running the table, reminding me that together—we can! We can become that village and raise these little ones, through symbols and obstacles, as well as fact filled fun. We’ll send them proud from Brown out into the world; with knowledge of self, respect for others as well as a head full of curls. They will go from boys and girls to strong Black men and women; with the understanding that they can and will win!! So as to what I’ve learned has been a lot, and as long as the children keep coming, We will not stop!!!
