    What Is You Legacy?

    Please, excuse me…for my interruption
And, if I might beg your pardon

    Who are you?

    ~ My name is… ~

    No…no.
    I’m sorry for the misunderstanding
    And…for being so demanding
But I don’t need your name
Unless it be the same as the question pertains

    I mean

    Who are you

    ~ I’m trying to tell you ~

    Was that showy display
Meant to explain who you are
    Have you…thus far
    Answered my inquiry
Into all the things you’ve aspired to be

    Is it your claim
    That your name
    Is the totality of you

    ~ That’s not what I’m trying to do ~

    Then, who are you

~ Does answering the question gain me a reward? ~

    Only an accord

    That explains life
    In the affirmative
    …Of the love you give

    As in…

I give all of me…in support of me

    ~ I see ~

    Do you…really?

    Is your support of you
    At the detriment of others
    Do you cherish a brutha
In the sacred realm of you

    ~ I do…but who are you ~

    I am the root
    …The large trunk
    Of MY FAMILY tree

    I HAVE THREE limbs
That have branched off from me

    As they grew
    And branched
    They took chances
    Discovered successful romances

(I look for better days to come their way)

    Now…again…I ask

    Who are you?

    The inner-most-TRUTH…of you
    That you can’t hide…from you

    What makes you TICK

    What is it that
    MOVES you to tears
    Or…motivates your fears

    What is…
    The down-deep-and-dirty…of you
    That no one knows…but you

    That tender glow
    That spells
    “SPECIAL”
To all those close to you

What would you like your children to know
Besides “I bequeath thee…pockets of gold
AND ALL the worldly possessions I HOLD”

    Is there a lesson
    To be gained
    With the sharing of
    SOMETHING
    Other than your family name

    I mean…

    Is it the
    “Peaches and cream”
    That make up the
    “Fortune and fame” thing
    That is your dream

    Or, is that too lame?

What will they say about you…after
    “Ashes to ashes
    And, dust to dust”
    Y
    O
    U

    R
    E
    T
    U
    R
    N

    Are you concerned
    ‘Bout the legacy of
    “Right or wrong”
You leave the weak and the strong
    As you journey along the
    “Here & Now”
Into the land of your making
    Having forsaken
    All those you leave behind

    Is it the
“Wise and kind” things you say
    That will bless your day
    With eternal rewards
    Will the Lord recognize you
    As one of His

    Are you my Father’s son
    Or…Your father’s child

Is he the one who fathered the lie
…That brought tears to a dying man’s eye

    ~ Who are you ~

    What would you do
If tomorrow was your last day
    (Of sorrow)
    To do and say
All the things you want to say
    (And do)

    What would you say
To the people whose lives you’ve touched
Would you tell them how much
    You’ve appreciated them…over the years
And how THANKFUL you are…to God
    For the life you’ve lived
And all the love you have…to give

Is that what you would do?

    In between
    “Here I am…”
    And
    “There I go”
    That sums up your life
    For others to know
    “Who you are”
    And
    “What you’ve done”
    Whether friend or foe
    Father…or, Son
    Here…in this space
    You are defined by the
    “Activities and beliefs”
    Inside the lines
    Between “Date of birth”
    And “Home-going time”

As we peer from the future
    Back to the past
    And all the questions
    One would ask
    Of
“What would you have done, differently”
After seeing all the things you’ve come to see

    What is your legacy?

    Who are you?

    $$RICH$$/4EVERLUV...

...at times, we must all reflect on our contributions, even to a hostile society...and, especially, to those whose lives we touch...in determining our worth as human beings. DID WE LEAVE AN IMPRESSION? DID WE HELP SOMEONE IN NEED? DID WE HELP TO GUIDE SOMEONE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? life is meant to be enjoyed. but, in the process, we must teach/direct those coming after us.

    THANKS for reading.

    DymePlaya2g/triniti

...we ALL have contributions we make in the lives of others. a kind word. a simple hello. can mean so much to someone who needs to hear it...at the exact moment they really need it. it may not mean much to US, at the time, but to that one who needs it...well, i'm reminded of the "Color Purple," when Whoopi saw Oprah in the store, during her punishment for hitting the white man. all Whoopi did was to put her finger under her chin and raise her head. but what it did for Oprah was much more--i don't remember the character's names. anyway, we need that encouragement, at times.

Dyme...ain't nothing wrong with watery eyes. we've all been there. we've all had to deal with the pressures of EVERYDAY. we've all looked in the mirror and wondered WHY...why me? KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. a change is coming. IT'S GON' GET BETTER.

triniti...funny you should say that motivational speaker thing. actually, this was inspired by a motivating speech, at my niece's college graduation.

    THANKS for reading.

In the Spirit of Sankofa and Life!

    DymePlaya2G,

It is with utmost caution that I approach this post and thread. Initially, my single reply would have been to Brother baller, however, as I continued reading I found your testimony of knowing or having an answer to the question, Who are you?

So it is that I say to you and Brother baller, an answer to this most intriguing question is all that remains, thus making the journey complete for all, or at least a start in that direction; what say you baller, and what say DymePlayer2g about supplying an answer.

And answer that perhaps prevents what has been described inside this post. Whether singularly, jointly or both, give us an answer to the question: Who are you?…………what say you my Brothers and my Friends?

    Clyde Coger...

...if i had to respond to an WHO AM I question...i would pause and consider, with all TRUE intentions...to play out a story that few people know...'bout a little boy black, and the things he went through...that story would go on, deep into the day...but, who i am, cannot be described in that way.

    i be baller
large trunk of my family tree
    i have three limbs
    they've all separated from me

    i'm a wordsmith
    master of the river's flow
    feet dangling in the stream
    heart pumping...well, you know.

    i be baller.
meager creation of my FATHER'S love
trying to be the ME that HE thought of
    when HE created ME

    WALK with me.
    on my journey into forever
    coz my FATHER would never
    leave me

    BELIEVE ME.
