There was a lively discussion last night on talk radio about "street credibility." The host suggested that the term is used to define negative behaviors. Someone argued that a pastor who lives in his neighborhood who is not afriad of the hustlers also has "street cred" even though he's doing something positive. Can you have street cred in the suburbs? If you're white?

What is "street credibility" and how does one attain it? :)

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish.....in your example of the Pastor that is out there helping folk despite having to deal with Dboys and such.....he's puttin in work........

In some circles I have Stripes because I have put in a different kind of work....mostly negative ........it was a long time ago......(not long enough for me) but for what I've done in that arena and in certain others I have that Respect.....(street cred, stripes)

that's work.......doing what you do regardless of the circumstances or consequences........one thing you have to understand though is that Respect for the most part is only from those in that circle it doesn't go along with you when dealing with folk who don't know you or what you've done......so in that ...yes a person in the burbs can have Stripes in their little circle ...

I think I agree that success has something to do with it. I mean, no one's really concerned about your credibility if you have no reputation (i.e. nobody knows who you are).

Often when you see someone who claim street credibility
it's because they have done some good in the community
gain inner respect by the successful deeds , these can be
many things and often worthy causes for the people when you
stand up making a differents in the community everyone will
give you high praise Respect falls right in and your worthness
say you have credibility to make things happen all this in the goodness
of a positive move this where you become known or have a reputation
for being supportive doing good , Credibility is not hard to achieve when
you are ready to make a strong stance.

    PEACE & HARMONY my PEOPLE
