To you, what is marriage and purpose does marriage serve. Why is it important in society?
I feel marriage is the assumption of social responsibilities as Husband and Wife and the meaning therein. These two more than other responsibilities are beholden to the other's ambition, interests and more. More the most important aspect of marriage is Family building: procreation. Without procreation--or being beholden to the partner--marriage is pointless.
Marriage? Hmmm, well marriage is an ultimate committment between man and wife.
It is a devotion of the heart, spirit, and body in every word spoken from then on out.
It is a burning passion that only exists because your other exists, and wherever they are, so forth do you go, and where you go, there they are also; whether there in the body or present in their mind.
Nothing lacks in marriage, but instead fills you up, in all parts you needed to be filled, without ever a wanting, but instead a desire.
It's purpose? Because man isn't made to be alone; it's importance in society can be said the same.
That's what I know.
Marriage is the foundation of a community, with no marriage, all you'd have are fornicators and adulterers who would plague and destroy the community with all type of bad behaviors and diseases. This is why the white man look down on Negroes because marriage have become such a foreign terms to us, simply almost all we have are baby mamas and baby daddys who couldn't care less about themselves needless to say the so called Black community. At the large scale, it's a social institution that's been re-invented and formalized in countless ways by human beings. Depending on where you are and who you are it could be something that's regulated by the state and/or religious institutions.
From the feet on the ground perspective it's something that affirms a bond between to people -- at least that's the ideal. If you're in a developed nation, it represents access to a legal framework of rights and benefits as well.

Oh I see, understood.
What is Marriage to You?
This rhetorical question is important because without it, none of us would be here today; and most of us were born from a marriage of some kind, giving it purpose.
The importance of it to society is that it serves as a mark or goal to be achieved; thereby making better citizens, overall.
