Black People Politics : What is going on in North Korea?

No one is going to support North Korea if a war happens. This is suicide. Have they turned insane over there?

North Korea announces ‘state of war’ with the South

North Korea has ignored international calls for calm and announced it is entering what it says is a ‘state of war’ with South Korea.
The escalation in rhetoric follows similar tough talking against the US in which it said it was readying rockets to attack US bases in the Pacific region.
Analysts claim the threat against the South has to be seen in context as both sides have technically been in a state of war since 1953 when the Korean conflict ended in an armistice and not a peace treaty.
Tensions have been high since North Korea carried out a third nuclear test in February. The subsequent sanctions angered Pyongyang which recently cut a military hotline with the South – the last direct official link between the two nations.

North Korea readies rockets and threatens US bases in Pacific

Troop movement at North Korea’s missile units has been detected just hours after the country’s leader ordered rocket units to be ready to attack US bases in the Pacific region.
The upsurge in military activity in the North comes after the US flew two nuclear-capable stealth bombers over the Korean peninsular in a rare show of force.
Although South Korea is concerned its government remains circumspect over the motivation for the apparent war mongering.
“Usually the operation instruction is made in secret. Revealing to media that [North Korea’s leader] Kim Jong Un ordered the operation instruction allowing all people in the world know about it, looks like psychological pressure,” said South Korea government spokesman, Kim Min-Seok.
The North has launched a daily barrage of threats since early this month when the United States and its ally South Korea began routine military drills.
Pyongyang is angry at a hike in sanctions imposed after it conducted its third nuclear weapons test in February.
However, few analysts believe the North will risk starting an all-out war.

The good thing about a war?
It would probably bode well for the economy, I'm thinking. That's the only thing that saved the economy in the 40's: World War II. Think of the production and commerce produced. If the cause for war is just - if we are attacked and American innocents killed, especially - Americans will rally together to support the war effort. Come what may. That's one thing about Americans. We fight but we're just one big happy dysfunctional family. Truly. You see bits of it whenever a national tragedy occurs. How Americans pull together, I mean.
If a threat is perceived? If the enemy is a clear and present danger? Our differences will be settled, for the moment, and a strong united front will appear in it's place. Our energy devoted to focusing on this threat and kicking 'its' a..s.
Few will give a crap about these silly tribal squabbles. We're all in this together.'The people' won't need coercing by the govt and we all know how scary Americans can be when they get all 'patriotic'. Group identity takes over. Nationalism gone rabid.

****************

One worst-case scenario that I fear? I hope, for the love of Superman and Baby Jesus, that this country doesn't get it in it's head that it needs to invade with the purpose of removing NK's leader!
...'cause guess who's going to be devoting resources and energy towards rebuilding that m/f.
That's possibly one of the reasons why Bush Sr never tried to go after Saddam. He knew that we'd end up having to occupy the country.
...and you really shouldn't go that route unless you've a damned good reason.

*****************

Think I was around 17 or 18 when Clinton waged a battle on Milosevic. I felt proud. Should we go in and help the Serbs? My young adult mind said, "Without a doubt! Milosevic is a vile person and should be deposed."
At a time, I believed that it was the 'duty', nay, responsibility...of the US to heal the world and defend those that couldn't defend themselves and fight everyone's battles... so to speak.
World Police, ya'll! *laugh*

...then I grew up. *laugh*
I'm relieved that Obama isn't beating the war drum...yet.
The idea of war makes me nauseous. Is there really a need (at this time) to get all antsy over this? I don't need some analyst to tell me the obvious. The NK's leader seems to be doing what they've always done best: Posturing.

I mean - how many 'airbrushed missile pics' have they circulated throughout the world media in the past? These nation's are always putting on display. I can't find a good article for it, but remember in '08 when Obama first came to office and Russia (I think) had subs and were conducting exercises in our waters (territory)?
They were testing Obama.
So...this thing with Pyong? He's grandstanding. What better way to appear strong to his nation than to challenge one of 'the super-powers'. It's expected, I think, for a new leader.
This would be the best time to do it and better that it be done to Obama, who despite allowing for the show of military/economic strength has remained far more cool-headed about the matter.
He may be gassed up but he's not stupid enough to strike the US or any nation with us in it...without the resources (or proper backing). Seems like he's beefing up his rhetoric because he knows that we have something of a 'dove' in office (which isn't always a bad thing) and Americans aren't looking to get into another conflict. This president is not going to respond militarily...to rhetoric.

Were George Dubya Bush the prez, he'd be riding a missile up Pyong's a..s right about now....
*laugh*
That was the upside to George Bush. Those who are against this country were cowed.
He even freaked out some of our allies. Notice when war drums sounded and America were all fired up after 9/11? Even when Bush was on the warpath, 'punking' France and threatening leaders in his 'Axis o' Evil' speech...I didn't hear Iran or NK popping off, then.

Words cant hurt us. I say, let it ride. Let's just keep up with the sanctions (or yank them and squeeze the country until he relents), beef up defenses, upgrade the threatcon, increase FTX exercises and let it pass. If they strike? The US will do...what it must to put down the skirmish, I suppose.
Drop some lead on 'em. Make it count and make it hurt...or there's no point in hitting them at all.

The US has it's military might. Still. It's just forced to fight with our hands behind our backs. Rules and regs. It's for the good of us all, truly. *laugh* If human beings waged and fought wars in the 21st as they have throughout human history? The US, as the first to develop nukes (I think), half the globe would be a dust bowl, by now.
I think... we're more evolved as a species than some within our species would give credit.

*********************

I fear for the citizens of North Korea. Wish there was a way to string up the leader, alone... Unfortunately, duking it out with NK will likely involve destabilizing the entire country (then being forced to rebuild it). *sigh*
Pretty sure that it won't come to that. Or, I hope that it won't.

***********************

remember the marshall plan?
what is the quickest road to prosperity? let the US bomb you flat and then rebuild you.
germany and japan, the nations that we 'defeated' in WWII have a better economy and a fresher infrastructure than we do.

They have better economies? I need to research this. Wasn't aware. *shrug*
However, the present state of the economy has to do with the bubble bursting of real estate. Subprime mtg investments, to be exact. (there was nowhere to invest but sub-prime. Before long the mtgs were sliced up and repackaged as 'securities'. Hedge-funders flipped the securities believing them to be 'risk free'. The problem was exacerbated by the fact that many of our banks weren't meeting their reserve requirements. When the bubble burst, housing prices dropped like a stone in water...which meant trouble for most homeowners. Especially when those ARMs began to adjust.... Wish I could say that I understood it as well as I'm explaining it. I know a bit about RE, but I'm not even gon' front: My husband had to 'dumb it down' for me. *laugh* He's an ibanker. His specialty is energy but...some knowledge is transferable.
To each according to their own abilities. Most people don't have MBAs and PhD's in Finance/Advanced Mathematics/Investing...and to understand the heart of what occurred back in the early 2000's? The govt wasn't lying. Specialized knowledge actually is required. You can't always Google your way to comprehension. Can't always depend on Wiki/Youtube to fill some knowledge gaps.
Do I blame our investors? No...more than I blame the average joe on the street who allowed their greed to coerce them into buying more home than they could afford. You know how many folks were jumping into real estate investing at that time? That's why some states are worse off than others, e.g., Florida...'cause Jeb Bush allowed RE sharks to fly in and make condos of every apt building standing. Allowed real estate investors (avg people) to flip entire neighborhoods. Allowed for the origination of loans WITHOUT licensing. Saw that housing prices were rising at such a rate that low-income families were being squeezed out and did nothing.
Point is: Capitalists create wealth. Capitalists only do what the fed/local govt allows.)

If their economy is doing better, it's nothing to do with war/economic strategies from decades ago.
Bear with me as I clear the cog webs from the crevices of my brain. It's been a long while since US GOVT 1300 & 1302:
*laugh*

It was the quickest road to prosperity...for us.
When America set about rebuilding Europe, there was a two-fold purpose.
America desired to take the lead. Making the reviving world economy dependent on us - revolve around OUR power - never ceased to be the point.
It's what the US had long tried to do in the expansionist race between Japan and Russia (I believe) to carve up Latin America and the Caribbean.
Panama, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Hawaii, etc.... The US didn't go to half of these places for any other reason than to promote strategic and economic interests.
As for the rebuilding of (was it 'western'?) Europe?
Recall that the World Bank and IMF were established at that time. Whose bright idea was that...and who sits at the helm of these agencies?

This is how a nation becomes a Super Power.

There's a reason why the US dictates the economic policy of developing nations, to this day...and there's a reason why every nation on the planet catches a cold when the US sneezes (which is how this whole financial mess got started. It was 'us' - our doing - that caused the disruption in the financial markets and other countries did blame us).

American leaders used to be a bunch of wicked geniuses and, in a weird way, I admire that. Not devious behavior, no. I just like a quick and calculating mind.
I understand the frustration of other world leaders, like, Pyong. It's not like we haven't given the world reasons to wish for the downfall of this country or openly conspire against us.

But...eh. How many nations have any room to judge American action?
Guess I'll play the American apologist, today. *laugh* I'm not about to sit here and have this nation chastised by the likes of Pyong or his screwball predecessor. Give me a break.

...or Saddam. RIP. Human rights violations, anyone?

...or the Palestinians. With respect, they don't know their a..ses from a hole in the ground. They don't know whose truly on their side.

...or Ahmadinajeb (sp?). The dude from Iran! I can't spell. I can hardly say it.

...or Chavez. RIP. For an example of why socialism is ineffective and why 'pure' economies don't work, in general? Look no further. When you attempt to cut the pie into more equal slices? The damned thing just gets smaller. Hopefully his successor will stop implementing failure a..s economic policies.

...or China? *bleep* China. Unlike most, I don't have much of an issue with the US charging a bunch of greenbacks up it's back. Other nations still have faith and invest in the greenback. That's why we're still afloat, despite the lowered credit rating. That's why most haven't dumped our T-Bills... for now. Could it happen? Yeah, but econ events take time.
At this time? China isn't about to dump sh..t.
I did laugh my a..s off in shock when, after repeated warnings, the Fed Reserve actually gave China the proverbial bird and said 'in so many words' that this is what it aimed to do, regardless.
Now, that's 'gangsta'...! *laugh* Sometimes, I forget how 'gangsta' this country really is.
It's what China deserves. They are resource gluttons AND they manipulate their currency against our own. People have to understand: We've got them as much as they've got us. We're climbing out of this hole using their (and any other nation) for heel support. If the roles were reversed, best believe that China'd do the same to America.

So, I'm an American...hailing from the great country of Texas. *laugh*..and guess what? However it sounds, I'd rather be in America than on the rec'ving end of it. *smirk*
Besides the fact that I like to be on the side that wins...*laugh*
I support America because I live here. I support American interests because they're intertwined with my own. Directly proportional to my own. I'm no fool. I know who butters my bread.
Relocation would be easy enough. Hell, you can buy a villa in Turkey with a live-in housekeeper or go to the Philippines or somewhere in Africa and live like royalty.
...but where on the planet would I go when citizenship means support?
*shrug*
I maintain that the US is no more imperialistic and self-interested than others. This isn't the only nation out there grasping for power. Is America on top? Yeah...because some nations will automatically play the game better than others. *shrug*
The nation's that despise us the most? Sour grapes, the lot of it.
To be in America's shoes? To be a superpower? They wish they could.
But...the US is home for me. There is no perfect govt. Every nation has dirt on it. Every nation is truly only concerned with their side of the globe. Best believe that the US has contingency plans against it's own allies. They all do....

Korea is a nut case country with a nut case leader that just might stumble around and get itself whacked….

:toast:... That's the most sense you've made in the past couple of weeks or so; well done good and faithful servant, you've generated a "classic" one liner.
