    Beloved One:

The question, what is an Elder is a valid one, but such a question can not be answered with conventional belief, as defined by the western world and if we should use such a definition, then the question would be answered simply, An Elder is someone who has lived the years whereby the experience of the process of the reverse birthing is in motion, which cause the person experiencing such a process not be capable of being as vibrant in body nor as physical agile as the body was in Time of its birth process of passing through the stages of early childhood development as the body go through the process of Human growth and development, headed to become a physical Elder.

Now, An Elder of complete substance is more than living to a ripe age of progressive maturity, which if we all live long enough will be exposed to
    that biological experience.

So, let us get back to the Elder of substance and that substance consist of both bodies and an ability to integrate the Two, as they move in harmony in an orderly action, thus being able to maintain a balance between the Two bodies and an Elder of experienced Divinity will be capably of living and existing at the same Time, experiencing the True meaning of the duality of the biological Being, physical and Spiritual such is the expression of a Divine Elder and not a biological Elder.

A Biological Elder flow and operate only under the dictate of the physical body, which cause that Elder to operate only on the physical, having no knowledge of the True meaning of the Spiritual body.

Such an Elder is under the influence of the dictate of Time and the deteriorate effect Time has upon the life of the physical body and yet compliment the Divine Ethereal Body, whose Destiny is Eternal Infinity.

So you see Beloved One, we have two types of Elders, One physical and the other ( Elder ) Both physical and Spiritual, expressing, with understanding, life experiences, having the wisdom to interpret life experiences clearly, gained from the knowledge and understanding, from living a physical life and experiencing a Spiritual existence at the same Time.

In other word Beloved One, a Divine Elder is Spiritual in a physical body and understand the importance of the essence and action of Spirituality.

    Here is loving you/Afrika:love:

    re: Elders

The elder, unlike the elderly, knows he or she owes advocacy and wisdom to others. The elderly complain about aging while elders continue to deepen their experience of living until they die. The elderly remain angry about experiences that hurt them throughout their life. They have not yet forgiven. The elderly don't celebrate long life in the way the elder does. The person expressing eldership begins each day with a sacred intention to show thanks for each new day and seeks to affirm life in others even in small ways. Because of this devotion to the celebration of life, elders elicit extraordinary deference from their community.

The archetypal elder has been the same force in most cultures over all most of the time. An "archetype' is a model for a role that has survived time. Within each person is an energy and a spirit that once accessed allows a person to express eldership in the way elders have from the beginning. Just as "instincts" seem to account for recurrent behavior patterns in man, so the archetypes seem to account for recurrent psychic patterns. Psychic patterns are expressions of one's psyche: all of an individual, which is not physical. When we seek to nourish the soul through an expression of elder energy an elder role emerges. Elder's roles include:

    Celebrants:

Are persons who are a source of blessing, a natural resource that can empower others

They initiate others and affirm them through unconditional positive regard

    Wisdomkeepers:

Are persons who put elderhood into action by sharing their impressions and beliefs and tell their story

Their work is to synthesize wisdom from long life experience
They share their long life experience by being accessible

    Earthkeepers:

Are persons who are partners with Earth and who sense they are one with nature

They are stewards, partners of both man and Earth

    Mentors:

Are persons who are stirred by cooperation and consensus and who enjoy the synergy of facilitator and being facilitated in co-creation

They believe the role of older people is to facilitate creativity in the young

They believe that the patterns of the past don't need to prevail and so they listen to youth

I agree with you both here it sums it all up and also most of all ELDER means older
one who should be respected and honored by respect .

    Hmmmm, Rich. :?:

IMO, I think that is the dividing factor.

All those who are "older" are not always "Elders." Some who are "older" are angry and bitter and are not able to share any guidance and wisdom their years should have produced.

Yes, I believe in respecting the "hoary head," but many who are "older" don't always respect others.

If you lived in America and went through what they went through in an effort to even be looked at, regarded and treated as HUMAN...you don't think in your mind and heart that they deserve to be both bitter and angry???

    Touche'

And for those who are angry and bitter there are also those who are not and who teach and lead from the same struggles, abuses and triumphs.

And it is the LATTER who qualify to be called "Elders" in my book.

    and the elder said.....

i am angry and bitter and i teach as best i can. you set up a false dichotomy. why?

so who died and made you the judge? you really should at least consider moving away from your european mind set.

    an elder is an elder.

this is not subject to you evaluation.

James, did you miss my qualifier, "in my book?" I never said that I am the "JUDGE" of it. I gave my opinion.

And if you are "angry and bitter" but still teach "as best you can," that's good. I was speaking to those who DON'T.

My "mindset" is not "European." I am speaking from my own experiences and differentiating those who were "older" and those who were "Elders" in my life.

No White person has ever been an "Elder" to me and they can't be. Any "Elder" in my life is, has been and always will be BLACK.
