    What is a poem??
Is it something that`s expressed by a dredlock wearing,
Talib Kweli album buyin, rag around da head havin wannabe??
Or is it something that`s defines someone? A message to the Gods
to deliver everytime we pick up a pen and rapidly scratch the paper
Something one could not live without a letter to society about the many
children raped and beaten by the system living with their grandparents because mama and daddy had to go out of their youth with a bang or because they are behind bars because they wanted to protect
"the crew". Or is it a sign of distress to the many rappers and "hip-hop artists" that their so-called talent is limited. My gucci this, my prada that. My 50 hoes in different area codes. My 23 cars that I never drive. While my brothaz and sistaz back home work night and day just to be broke again the next check day. Or mama who is an invalid lives in a nursing home that is funded by the state. Let`s not forget the many illegitimate babies that will one day question the motives of my me and my pseudo-success. Is a poem rhyming story about how money is the root of all evil. About how mothers and fathers will sell their precious babies to a dope dealer
because their short. Or how so many people only have babies for public aid or food stamps. Or is it a tribute to all the little aborted babies because mommies and daddies were looking for a method of birth control instead of enforcing self-control. Or is it even a way to commemorate the many brothaz and sistaz that do succeed but get severe criticism by their own for being a sell-out because they wanted something a lil better out of life than a sentence of 25 to life or being a project hood rat or crack ho...
you see brothaz and sistaz, it`s not who writes the poem...it`s what
the poem makes out of you, even if it`s written by some dredlock
wearin, Talib Kweli album buying, rag around the head havin wannabe

Poetry means so many different things to so many different people, and that can be poetry in and of itself. Something to ponder, and I like the way you brought this.
