the near north
It means four hundred years of
~Oppression
That gave birth to a
~Slave’s Mentality
A reality that binds us to
Yesterday’s lesson in
~Poverty and
~Hostility
And a history of
~Distrust and
Distressed Racial Harmony.

It means
~Struggling
In a society that don’t want you (((they don’t want you!!!)))
~Drugs
~Violence
Reaching out to squash you
~A treacherous Heart
That’s bent on devouring you

Hmmm…

It means dealing with
~Insecure and
~Insincere people
…Everyday

It means…
Being on the endangered species list
Called, The Just’US system
~Police Brutality
~Racial Profiling
And so many inequalities
It’s hard to see
The mountain Martin spoke of

Then there was that
“By Any Means Necessary”
Negro

You know
