the near north
What causes the grays and the blues
And other gentle hues
What holds it suspended in the sky
Floating
Nonchalantly
Between heaven and earth
For the gratitude
Of you and I

What keep these gases from breaking away
Drifting…like little cotton balls
Along the breezes of each day
Why don’t they dissipate
As the winds push them
On
On
Along the periphery
Of right-angled
Windbreaks
That clouds take
When raining chaos
Upon sunshiny days

What placed the breeze upon the air
What made it play a serenade
Along the boobies of my hair
And when each puff
Again
Takes flight
Stirring the feathers
Of each day
I’ll search the lands
High and low
For gentle breezes
Flowing my way

What causes the sun to shine
Giving warmth to one and all
As mornings rise
And evenings fall
And noon-time’s glow
Do touch the soul

What causes a cloud mass?
