Hello Family. I am itching to get a real discussion going about the relevance (or not) of metaphysical principles and practices to us as a people, regardless of our religious or spiritual beliefs. Any takers?

ok, what is your definition of metaphysics? what is your position on the question?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphysics
Metaphysics is a traditional branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world that encompasses it,[1] although the term is not easily defined.[2] Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms:[3]

  1. What is ultimately there?
  2. What is it like?

using this definition it would seem that all beliefs are a response to these basic questions.
all religions are an attempt to answer what is there and act accordingly.

Peace, sis.

I don't really know too much about it (metaphysics) but if it is philosophy, I say that if it helps an individual Black that is good. But philosophy will not reach & help the masses of Blacks is my guess.

Could you discuss it a little for those of us unfamiliar with it?:)

Peace & Blessings to you.

Thank you for kicking off this thread. As it relates to spirituality, and as I see its relevance to Black people, metaphysics is simply the principle that consciousness creates reality. Whatever we believe and pursue with single-minded conviction must follow certain natural laws and come into physical being. So if we are dissatisfied with our experiences, we posses the power to change them. We don't have to wait for a savior or a legislator or a spiritual leader to create a different paradigm for us as a people and for our descendants. It doesn't matter what theology or belief system we as individuals follow so long as we do not abdicate our power and responsibility as mental creators. :grouphug:

Yes, unfortunately that's what has consistently happened up to this point. Most of us see this subject as something totally irrelevant to us, each of us for our own reasons. What I can say to that is that nothing is more relevant than mind/soul/consciousness. How it would help is that we could know for certain that we, by not leaving our destiny up to elected officials or leaders or some kind of savior, can render the effects of racism impotent. We do this by CREATING, on purpose and with a purpose, the systems, institutions, businesses, social service agencies, whatever, that can make us SELF-SUFFICIENT and thereby more free. Not in the next life, but in this one. :)
