As the memory of the brilliant Maya Angelou was lovingly commemorated in Harlem through a message on the marquee at the Apollo Theater, the infamously hateful Westboro Baptist Church appears to be planning to bring its campaign of bigotry to Angelou’s funeral.

The Kansas-based church, which has become well known for picketing public events with nasty, controversial, bigoted signage, has asked its Twitter followers to provide information on Angelou’s funeral. The church also put up a stream of hateful invective on its Twitter stream, such as “#mayaangelou spent many of her 86 yrs on f-g’s favorite misdirection, pretending f-gging off is like being black.”

Other signs Westboro picketers have used at public events include, “THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIERS” and “GOD HATES F-GS.”

In Harlem, the Apollo had the following message on its marquee:
“In Memory of Maya Angelou, a True American Icon, 1928-2014.”

So that means you'll be at the funeral, picketing with them?

    What?

So because I showed an image of people that have a t-shirt that claims "Gay is the new black" in conjunction with a biggot's claim of "f-gging off is like being black" I must agree with them and picket with them?

No comment, will just let that one be what it is and not touch it.

If a t-shirt offends some, that's their problem... deal with it in whatever way one desires, maybe even find the ones with the shirts and address and question them instead.

But if the mentally challenged cannot see how someone using an image like this and other statements are comparible (outside of the slur), then I purpose a few other videos:

Hidden Colors on "Gandhi and Blacks"

Guess this topic wasn't posed for a serious discussion, my apologies.

Allow me to add my common/average remarks:

"Oh this is just awful, what a bunch of ignorant, hateful bible thumpers!"

Mind you, I agree and stand by that comment, no matter how simple it sounds, but to state the obvious becomes trivial at times and wastes energy that could be used on other ventures.

Added so much to the discussion and felt good to type, whew... I feel better now.

    Respect

Two Million Bikers to D.C. (2MBTDC), is building a "Wall for Maya Angelou" in order to thwart the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) from disrupting the funeral of the iconic and controversial American poet on Thursday night in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Despite the lack of media attention, 2MBTDC tapped into the national psyche when they roared into Washington, D.C. last year on September 11. While the ride was initially in response to the pitifully-attended "Million Muslim March," the biker group evolved into something that could never have been anticipated by 2MBTDC founder Belinda Bee.

Bee told the Examiner that they are not riding in support of Angelou's beliefs. "We are riding to protect her funeral from WBC," she said. "If we allow WBC to protest her funeral what will stop them from protesting one of our funerals?"

So what was the purpose of your posting it?
Yes, you did "comment." Didn't you? :10500:

What the freak are you talking about? This thread is about the whites of the Westboro Church planning to picket Maya Angelou's funeral.

It is as I thought - like the white people you admire who want to hi-jack Angelou's funeral for their political purposes, you want to hi-jack this thread for yours.

    Puh-lese!

    An intelligent response, I'd say.
