What is the difference between West Indian Americans and African Americans? What is the relationship between the two groups? :read:

Geographic location...that is about it! We share the same heritage & history. In fact many African Americans have direct ancestory to the Caribbean: Early American slaves were brought from the West Indies, because the North American British colonies lacked the funding to bring slaves directly from Africa. Besides differences in language and some cultural differences...I'd say we have more things in common than differences!

    Got any older sisters Prizefighter16?

Yeah, West Indian women are beautiful. I saw a West Indian woman at Barnes and Noble last week and I almost fell down the stairs to my death.

For the most part west indians look Identical to black americans, so how could you tell the difference? in fact why would you want there to be a difference?

Indeed that was the point of my visions of blackness thread...to illustrate how similar black people throughout the Diaspora favor each other. West Indian Women are beautiful, because they look like sistas throughout the Diaspora!

No they don't man. Not all do. I'm not about to get into a debate with you Sekhemu. I think you ventured out of the Pro-black/ Interracial thread without even realizing it. Who said I wanted there to be a difference? Are you seeing something that you want to see in my comment?

I'm saying we need to be careful with over-romanticizing our own people. In NYC about 1/5 of the black people have caribbean ancestry, and I think it is a little unfortunate that we make them seem so exotic and different from us. This is what I am saying.

Are you telling me you got all that from my post? Black women in general are very beautiful and I have stated that many times.
