Well, honestly, I don't know what will turn us around as a people. We could say get married before having kids, but we all know most marriages in this country fail, so that still leaves more broken homes than stable households. We can say educate the kids, but we are so messed up, how can insane people educate anyone. I really don't think black people as a whole will ever be "right" while living in this country and being influenced so heavily by this society. The reason why kids are so messed up is because of what the article stated. It's not women bashing, it's the truth. Women head many of the households because of broken homes (all of which weren't broken ONLY by men), and as a results, women are acting like whores and men are acting like the fools that most women seem to be attracted to. Our men and women need to grow up and stop acting like chocolate covered white people. There needs to be pride amongst us, and we don't have that and we don't show that we want that. Until we have pride, whether we get married or not, have kids in or out of wedlock, it won't matter.
<whew!>Valid topic and something does need to be done.

But it ain't solely about African Women, nor is it soley about African Men. We can be "right" while living anywhere on this planet! It's the "being influenced so heavily by this society" that is doing the damage!! The only thing "this society" is about is subjugating every living thing on this planet to the benefit of white people! And they so messed up, they don't even extend this to all of their own! It ain't really about African folks, at all! It's about the "societal constraints" imposed from without our community .... Such as it is. (Unfortunately, the biggest indicator of the damage is your automatically "questioning" my usage of the GLOBAL, COMMON IDENTITY "African"! Fine, somebody else named the continent; whatever. TODAY, that continent from which we all originated is called AFRICA. When we pull it together, we can change it if we want to. NOW, TODAY, we need the Unity of a SINGLE COMMON GLOBAL IDENTITY.)

It's as plain as the nose on the Sphinx:

"Heck no! Let all them SuperHuman Africans get their head on straight??? Are you crazy?!! They'd take the world back away from us!! Keep the communities (such as they are) messed up and at each other's throats. Keep each side blaming the other! And above all else; KEEP THEM FROM BEING EDUCATED! Keep them opiated with the silly notion that they can gain economic or political influence! Keep them arguing over silly stuff and if it looks like they might be gaining some sense, send in the counter intelligence folks to counter their intelligence! Keep them "living for the AfterLife' and not in ThisLife! Cheap drugs, lots of liquor stores, let them play ball all the time and get 'em to thinking that they are gonna go someplace with the money they get. <snicker> (But make sure they can't form their own league, or it's "game over" for sure!) And just when they look like they about to try to do something with that "wealth", "influence" and "power"; frame 'em for something ... Make something up if you have to!"

And you know it's true!

We are NOT "insane"!!!!! We are severly traumatized, and all the stuff mentioned throughout this forum are just signs of that. And like any trauma survivor, the Healing Starts WithIn. While it is all well and good to know about how we did things before, we need to be concentrating on some NOW. Not on the outside; on the inside. We have to find that Human Heart and Spirit that lurks within. It's the piece that keeps us putting up with the crap for one more day. It's the piece that keeps us, sometimes, from just slappin that danged peedub when it needs to be slapped. It's the piece that just keeps us hangin on and hangin in.

The Answer Is WithIn. ... Ok, trite and not full of instructions, but those are in there too! "The Axe Is In Your Hand"

is the glass half empty or is it half full?

we can always say that black people are this and that.
many have made a career out of doing that.

but we could say that if you consider what black people worldwide have been through, the fact that there is any of us at all who are still up and fighting is a heck of a thing.

i wonder why none of the critics ever take this approach?

because emphasizing our true strength would not allow them to do all that they do?
