A while back Destee allowed me to do hold a chat, and one of the sessions was on owning your own domain name. Below is what happened to me today. I am lucky, I owned the name. Hi Destee ================== For years have been telling people they should own their personal domain names, ie. Kelvinbrown.com, johndoe.com Perfect example: This morning I got a disturbing email. Basically it said the person was very concerned about doing business with me. I had no clue what this was about 'till I got this search engine alert in my email box. ======= The status of Murray State juniors Kelvin Brown and Adam Chiles remained uncertain Monday after they were arrested on drug charges ======= There is a basketball player, maybe former, who was just arrested and suspended on drug charges. His name " Kelvin Brown" is all over the sports news. It just happens that, this is my name also. The problem for me, is it may be disturbing to some of my client or readers, contacts, etc. I am able to combat this problem, in part, do to the fact that I own, Kelvinbrown.com. If you search the major engines, for the name kelvin brown, my site comes up in the first results. The news reports about the other guy come up later. Those searching for more based on that news report, will likely see my domain, and some will click on it. Others wondering about me may also do a search. If you look at my domain, nothing special, you can see I placed a note on it saying, I am not the guy in trouble. Later, if the traffic shows a large increase, I will sell something. Maybe just move up the adsense campaign. I think it is very important, that even if you don't use your personal name, that for less $10 a year it is important to register it. For example: Let's say I did own the name, but did not actively use it. Then I saw all the reports about this guy with the same name. I could within 72 hours have a host and put up an active site, with my version of events. It may be just me, but I think this story says out loud, you need to own your personal domain name. Kelvin Brown Order your domain name from www.domainsubmit.com for $8.75 or less. Get both a domain name and a one page website for less than $25 a year.
