    VOODOO CHILE
I try to close my eyes to the hatred, but when I awaken
It hits me in the face like a brick
And its as cold as steel
    On the real
So how in the world am I supposed to feel
Like a VOODOO CHILE I guess
I get stress from both sides
Till it eats me up inside
I could strive to get their approval, but it would all be lies
It's like eating sawdust, I'll get full
    But I won't be satisfied
Just once I'd like to be held in love, and not contempt
No not love, not even like, just acceptance is what I meant
But I have bruises from all the tongue-lashings
    And ego bashing
Till I feel my whole world crashing around me
And my mind begins to bend from the weight
Sometimes I wish I could give in to the hate
But if I did, I would no longer be
A VOODOO CHILE; like the VOODOO chillun who came before me who inspired me
My heroes have always been slaves, field ****** and maids
For them, just waking up was brave
Not even a whole man, just a fraction
Sometimes I want to go off like a nuclear reaction
But I'm a VOODOO CHILE, so my reward is being free
So have the knowledge of the divinity within me
But the nature of divinity is duality
Because the word for divine is the same word for devil in actuality
The fallacy, of good and evil all dies
When you look at the world through a VOODOO CHILE's eyes
But sometimes, I wish those eyes would close
And I could forget all the things to which I've been exposed
So I could be like everyone else, follow the leader, fall in line
And leave knowledge of self far behind
Yeah, that would be easier, but it wouldn't be right
At 6 in the morning, you can't extinguish sunlight
And even at night, the light reflects off the moon
So no matter what, I'll always be in tune
I was born to be a VOODOO CHILE, and that's it
I was a light, forever destined to be lit

I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time, I'll give it right back to you one of these days
I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time, I'll give it right back to you one of these days
If I don't see you nomore in this world, I'll see you in the next one, and don't be late.
    Don't be late.
