Verizon’s #YouDon’tKnowMe Campaign Challenges Stereotypes of Young Men of Color, Promotes STEM
Verizon’s latest PSA takes aim at the stereotypes that often plague young men of color. With the line #YouDon’tKnowMe, the spot challenges these pre-judgments and encourages viewers to not make assumptions based solely on color.
The PSA starts with the image of a young male in a black hoodie walking down the street. The camera follows him from behind as the viewer soaks in the opening image. It’s certainly heavy handed imagery for what will turn out to be a spot promoting the education of minority males in STEM fields. But that is the point…we’ve got to do better by our young men of color NOW and SOMEHOW.
