Venus Williams Quits US Open With Autoimmune Disease
Two days after playing her first match in two months, Venus pulled out of the U.S. Open on Wednesday, revealing she was diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome

Tennis star Venus Williams has announced she's dropping out of the U.S. Open because of an autoimmune disorder called Sjogren's syndrome].

It could lead to her retirement from tennis, Venus say her full health is very important to her.

In autoimmune disorders, your immune system attacks your own tissues, mistaking them for harmful pathogens. Rheumatoid arthritis, Type 1 diabetes and lupus are other examples of autoimmune disorders.
In Sjogren's syndrome, the immune system's white blood cells attack glands that make tears and saliva, according to the National Institutes of Health. Damaged glands can't properly produce tears and saliva, resulting in the two main symptoms of the condition — dry mouth and eyes, according to the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation. As many as 4 million Americans have been diagnosed with the condition, the foundation says.
Patients can also experience fatigue and joint pain, as Williams said she does. In a statement, Williams said the disease has also affected her energy level.
Sjogren's syndrome usually develops in people in their 40s; Williams is 31. Ninety percent of patients are women.

There is no cure for the condition

Treatments can include over-the-counter or prescription medications for dry eyes and mouth, and drinking water more frequently, according to the Mayo Clinic. Anti-inflammatory drugs can be taken to treat the pain, and drugs that suppress the immune system may also help with whole-body symptoms, the Mayo Clinic says.

Im so sorry to hear this about Venus. She did say that she hopes to return to tennis when she gets this condition under control. I pray that it was caught in time and maybe with her status in life, a cure might be on the horizon.

I too hope that she don't retire from the sport she love , she only 31
and ranked 32nd in the world love to see her climb back in the top five
i know it must be painful for her to quit after winning her last match in
    double sets .

Im with you $$RICH$$. Venus and Serena have served up some wonderful tennis over the past 10 or so yrs. I hate
see it coming to an end for either of them. I know its going to happen. I just don't want it to be now.

If Venus was in perfect health she could go another 6 or 7 years strong
I think Serena will go past 35 before she think about retiring from the sport
who knows she might go longer and still be on top of her game .

Add the bro Wilfried Tsonga to the list too. Tsonga > Monfils.

Sucks that Venus got sick though. Wanted her to smash all the tennis records to make up for the dearth of black tennis players.
