    As a vegetarian how can I be sure I am getting the proper amount and kind of protein?

    Every food, with the exception of fruit, fats and sugar, has protein in it. In fact, one cup of legumes, such as beans or peas, delivers between 13 and 16 grams of protein, with some beans containing as much as 29 grams per cup. Based on the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) for protein, which is 63 grams per day for men aged 30 to 59 and 50 grams per day for women in the same group, getting enough protein is easy. From your body’s point of view, there is no difference in the amount of protein found in 1/2 cup of soybeans and that found in 5 ounces of steak.

    Peanuts, soy and other legumes, the alga spirulina and certain grains are some of the richest sources of plant protein. Popular meat and milk-replacement products contain soy, which is very rich in protein. Soy milk (without added sugar) contains almost twice as much protein per calorie as cow's milk. Some common vegan sources of protein, besides beans and peas, include potatoes, broccoli, spinach, kale, peanut butter, tofu, soymilk, pasta and bread. Other good sources of protein are grains such as wheat, oats, rice, barley, buckwheat and millet. Protein can also be found in nuts, such as Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, almonds and cashews, as well as seeds, including sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds.

    Brother Aqil I second the information in your post but as you know Brother, The RDA requirements, many things are not worth the paper it’s written on and many feel the protein requirements of most men and women are way over-blown…just look at the muscular strength of most frugivorous primates and herbivores. We must not forget that Beef industry is like the oil business in the western world…it’s big, big money with a lot of influence.

    Vegetarians get best Protein

    The Absolute strongest creatures on planet Earth are all Vegetarians. Some examples are the Elephant, Rino, Water Buffalo, Geraff, Horse ect. Any one concidering vegetarianism (The Natural Order of Things) should do all of the reserch needed to build the confidence needed to feel secure with leaving the Mad-Cow and even Madder-Chickens alone for good health. If Meat, Chicken and Fish are eaten in small portions, we "Must" make sure it is "Clean" and not poluted with injections or Toxic Waste. We can get every thing and more from eating only Fruits,Vegetables,berries,nuts and Fish. The Cattle industry has always been big buks for the ones invoved in meat processing, so naturaly they will tell you it is healthy to eat, and it is not. Americans are the sickest people on the planet Earth, why?? Americans are the Fatest people on the planet Earth, why?? Other countries refuse to except American meat and chicken products, why?? We have to do our own rescerch in order to save our selves.

    Outstanding brother.... You are dispelling one of the greatest myths and lies being perpetrated on all people today. The meat Industry is the most profitable industries in the world. They have enough money to payoff the FDA, the EPA, the WHO and any other organization that would stand in the way of the almighty dollar. Behind them is the Pharmaceutical Industry. They are working hand in hand. The meat industry sells you meat that will make you sick and the pharmaceutical industry sells you drugs that will temporarily relieve the symptoms but not ever cure the cause. This is the age of the pill. If a woman does not want to get pregnant she can take a pill. If does want to get pregnant she can take a pill. If she gets pregnant and doesn't want to he the baby she can take a pill. If an obese person wants to get thinner they can take a pill. If an athlete wants the do drugs is pass a urinalysis he can take a pill. If you want children to behave in school they can take a pill. If you want to continue to eat cholesterol filled meat and not have a heart attack or stroke right away you can take a pill. A lot of industries spin off the consumption of meat. Without meat we would not need BBQ sauce, mustard, ketch up, bread, gravy, beer, hotsauce, tabasco sauce, french fries, grills, charcoal, butcher knives, etc. Yup the world would be a different place with meat. We might even live longer....

    Some other things we wouldn't need without meat: Pepto Bismal, Alka Seltzer, Ex Lax, Tums.....

    But now I do like hotsauce and vinegar on my greens.
