    Do you celebrate Valentine's day?
If so, how are you celebrating it?

Unfortunately, I am not one to celebrate anything. This came from my rejection of European society. I have since learned that Africans created holidays. However, with the amount of times that we fragmented, I don't know what justice I can give to any particular holiday. After all, there's probably an African holiday every day by now.

As to Valentine's day. I'm not the gift-giving type.

As Positive K says in "I Got a Man" when the woman tells him that her man buys her gifts and takes her out:

"You can keep your man, 'cause I don't go that route."

Yeah, but I won't be celebrating this year. My fiance recently got on a great firm in Houston, to which he air-commutes weekly. So....it'll be me and the dogs, this year. Unless my friends want to do something...I guess.

    I celebrate V-day. Why?
Why...not? We do nice things for each other regularly. Why not celebrate the day that's been set aside for such a purpose?

    How do I celebrate?
Y'know...I'm really bad at buying gifts for men. I confess.
The last gift I bought for my fiance was this Art of Shaving system and cremes from the Gentlemen's Refinery.
He's mixed (black rican) but he has razor bump issues like most other black men. So, I thought that the shaving equipment would be good. I'd read that the merkur's provided a superior shave...??

...but he already has his own 'system' for shaving his head/face. He was happy and impressed that I'd placed so much thought into it, though. He keeps it around on his vanity and loves the brush and the cremes.
At first, I thought he was only using it to not hurt my feelings. *laugh* But - he's ordered more, so....

Anyway - after that whole shaving thing, I just stick to 'sure bets'. Although I love gourmet italian and the whole 'process' that is 'fine dining'...he doesn't. So, it's usually better and he's more appreciative if I just cook the meal myself. Beyond season tickets to some game, I don't know how to pick presents for him.

He usually buys gifts or takes me somewhere. I'm not all that hard to please. I like my dinners and my handbags and such...but I have been known to cry upon receiving simple gifts - like flowers and candy. Jewelry? Meh. I admire it on others. That's about it. I'm not one to run around in baubles. Truthfully, the only piece of jewelry that I value (besides heirlooms) -> my wedding ring.
I'm the sort who runs around in Claire's costume jewelry.
I regularly lose earrings. I've lost a belly ring...while wearing it. How does that happen?
Once...we went on a dinner cruise, me and my man? He presented to me a tennis bracelet which I ended up almost dropping over the rail, so....*laugh*
Only reason I haven't lost my engagement ring? I never take it off...anymore.
I normally don't...but, once, I left it at the sink at work while washing my hands. There was a 'code'. I hauled a..s out of there. Forgot all about it until my colleague came running after me!
"The pawn shops close at 10, y'know. I'm just saying....if you don't want it...."

No, for me Valentine's day has pagan origins, so I don't do it.
