Vain and Hollow
The word for the day is patriotic
And is defined by such variety
From courageous to the idiotic
From common sense to sheer lunacy
How much more unpatriotic am I than you
Because I don’t wear a flag pin on my chest
Yet you in your political view
From me my citizen’s rights try your hardest to wrest
Yet if me or my offspring go off to fight your war
And my family you treat unpatriotic
By denying them financial aid and more
Then to me your concept of it is idiotic
If being patriotic means paying high prices for oil
And every other necessity
Then as frustrations rapidly come to a boil
There’s none more patriotic than me
And the millions who struggle day to day
To try to make routine ends meet
Excuse me but I just have to say
Your patriotism is to me less than sweet
For if my patriotism you define
By the bull you ask me to swallow
You are out of your ever loving mind
And your patriotism is vain and hollow
