Science and Technology : Using plantronics mic headset in ubuntu 8.10

:jawdrop: wait a minute.

MySister; wha'chu doing running ubuntu?

kewl! how long? how do you like it? what are you running it on?
Help,

I'm having a problem configuring my headset microphone working in black voice chat. The headset is working perfectly but voice and record part is not working.:help:.
welcome to the site! and what a wonderful place for a first post! <grin>

are voice and record working period? can you hear yourself and/or record anything using one of the pre-installed applications? (Applications -> Sound & Video -> Sound Recorder for instance) it may just be that the currently selected "capture device" isn't the plantronics mic when you are in the chat room.

double click on the speaker -> Edit -> Preferences; select microphone capture, video capture, and capture (you may have to select the microphone select). you'll see some new tabs crop up: recording, switches and options. the recording tab the recording volume. the switches tab allows you to select which device to record from. the options tab allows you to select whichever mic you want to record from.

once we know that much, we'll have to check the chat room settings. (or we might have to "get gritty wit it" and tweak some deeper settings; i spotted reports of issues with upgrades, tweaks and "improvements" to the sound system that seemed to gotten twisted in some mergers into the latest kernel ... )

peace and welcome!!

hello,

Thank-u for responding to my post. I been running Linux about 8 yrs now. Started out on Redhat, Mandrake and now Ubuntu which is by far best in my opinion. Under the volume control preference i have headphone, microphone capture, aux, line-in capture, microphone capture, line jack sense, and a bunch of other stuff checked off. But the microphone part of the headset refuse to work i can hear out of the headphones thats all though.

is there a way to post screenshots of my things i have installed under the volume control preferences. Maybe u can spot the problem. I think i may have a software conflict somewhere or to many things installed at once.

Thank-u

screenshots are really easy; press the "Print Screen/Sys Rq" button and a dialog box will pop up asking for a file name and a place to save it. (the box defaults to "screenshot-x.png on your desktop.)

and then use the "add image" icon (the one that looks like a post card) to enter the url of where your picture is located.
