Using Lemons to Bleach Skin

Lemon as a Skin Bleach
# As we age, our skin tone tends to become uneven. Exposure to the sun causes skin damage. Sun damaged skin shows areas of hyperpigmentation (dark spots), giving the skin an uneven tone. Skin can also develop an uneven tone due to acne scarring. A lemon is an inexpensive fruit that can bleach and even skin tone.

The citric content of a lemon acts as an acid. When applied topically, the acid dissolves dead skin cells, exposing the fresh skin underneath and encouraging new skin growth. Lemons also contain a high amount of vitamin C. Topically applied vitamin C provides two main benefits. It acts as an antioxidant, protecting the skin from the damaging effects of pollution. Vitamin C also inhibits the skin's production of melanin. That is true according to the "Dermatologic Surgery Journal 2005."
How to Use Lemon Juice
# Lemon juice can be applied topically to the skin as often as once a day to even out skin tone. Fresh lemon juice works better than concentrated lemon juice. Use organic lemons when available to avoid pesticide exposure. Because lemon juice is acidic, it can cause a burning sensation when applied to the skin. To minimize the burning sensation, the lemon juice should be diluted by at least 50 percent before use. The juice can be diluted with plain water, a floral water or green tea. As the skin becomes accustomed to the lemon juice--and the burning sensation lessons--the concentration of the juice can be increased if desired. How fast the lemon juice works to lighten skin depends on the severity of the hyperpigmentation. Lightening happens gradually. Results can be expected anywhere from one month to six months after regular use.
Irritation
# If the lemon juice mixture irritates the skin, dilute the lemon juice mixture to include less lemon. Reduce the frequency of application to every other day.
Maintenance
# After the skin is successfully lightened to the desired level, the lemon juice should be applied less frequently. For maintenance, the juice should be applied topically once a week. Maintaining the skin on a weekly basis with lemon juice helps to prevent new hyperpigmention areas from developing.

I guess it's safter to use lemons than those bleaching creams that damage your liver. Lemons just take too long to work though...

I don't think lemons can bleach our skin like the creams they have out on the market, its used more for acne scars or other types of hyper-pigmentation on the face.

i know white girls used it to get rid of freckles...
