Health and Wellness : US Ebola Issues - and Patient Treatments

In in all due candor and honesty:

So many are just too one issue oriented, whatever their backgrounds, among our peoples in the states, etc.

And just who among the better off blacks, aka the the black health professionals etc., are able and willing to sacrifice, to aid our distant relations of Mother Africa, too?

Of course, continued efforts to return kidnapped teens to their parents should be aided, as regards Nigeria's other present day crisis, but that's not all we and they are up against, via times like this!

Exclusive: U.S. requests production plans for Ebola drug ZMapp

Two tiny companies are preparing to challenge some of the world's largest drug makers in the battle for dominance in the $3 billion global market for influenza vaccines, armed with little more than tiny tobacco plants. The use of plants to produce life-saving pharmaceuticals captured global attention when it was revealed that the Ebola drug ZMapp is produced in the leaves of tobacco plants. Leading producers such as GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Sanofi SA need six months to produce flu vaccine once scientists identify the dominant virus expected to circulate during flu season. Vaccine production from tobacco plants by Quebec City-based Medicago or Bryan, Texas-based Caliber Biotherapeutics could do it in weeks. NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials have asked three advanced biology laboratories to submit plans for producing the experimental Ebola drug ZMapp, which ran out after it was given to a handful of medical workers who contracted the disease in West Africa, government and lab officials said on Friday.

The "task order" issued on Thursday by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) asks that detailed plans, including budgets and timetables, be submitted by Nov. 10.

Pentagon: Sick woman claimed Africa trip

2014-10-17T171312Z_208920595_GM1EAAI03AR01_RTRMADP_3_EBOLA-HEALTH-USA-PENTAGON.JPG

Emergency workers in hazmat suits work in a Pentagon parking lot after a woman who recently traveled to Africa vomited there, in Washington October 17, 2014. The Pentagon confirmed an Ebola scare on Friday in one of its parking lots when the woman vomited after getting off a bus headed to a high-level Marine Corps ceremony. She was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital at 9:53 a.m. (1353 GMT), 43 minutes after Pentagon police identified her. The general area of the parking lot where she vomited was closed off, as was one of the Pentagon's entrances, "out of an abundance of caution and to allow the investigation to proceed." WASHINGTON (AP) — Pentagon police shut down a building entrance and a portion of the south parking lot Friday because a woman was sick and told emergency personnel she had recently been to West Africa, officials said.

Arlington County, Virginia, where the Pentagon is located, responded with a HazMat team and was treating the incident as a possible Ebola case.

A statement by Inova Fairfax Hospital said the woman was isolated and was being evaluated by hospital staff and the Fairfax County Health Department but it had not yet been decided whether to test her for the Ebola virus.

Texas health worker isolated on cruise ship over possible Ebola contact

The person left the country before being notified of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) updated requirement for active monitoring, the statement said.

(Reuters) - A Texas health worker who may have had contact with specimens from the first patient diagnosed with Ebola in the United States has been isolated on a cruise ship despite showing no symptoms of the disease, the Department of State said on Friday.

The Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital worker, who did not have direct contact with now deceased Liberian patient Thomas Eric Duncan but could have processed his bodily fluids 19 days ago, left on a cruise from Galveston on Sunday, department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.

Ebola Scare Turns Dallas Hospital Into a 'Ghost Town' (ABC News)

The Dallas nurses who contracted Ebola while treating a patient at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital have been moved from the building, but patients are still steering clear of the once-bustling hospital.

People have called to cancel outpatient procedures, and some have even opted not to go to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in emergency situations, ABC Dallas affiliate WFAA reports.
