    A bigheaded little boy
    Standing on tippy-toes
    Trying to see the stage
    Through a sea of afros

    He danced all by himself
    Grooving to the Motown beat
Memorized by the energy on stage
He figured out he could see it all
    By standing on his seat
It was my first stroke of genius

His eyes zoomed in on busty ladies
    Skin-tight dresses with overdone doo’s
    Brothers in satin suits
    Smooth moves synchronized
Singing songs of love and romance
    Sisters in the audience hypnotized

    I couldn’t wait to be a teenager
    Be among this group
I already knew all the words to all the songs
    I could sing with them
    Laugh with them
    Really be with them
    Argue that Mary Wilson
    Was finer than Ronnie Specter

    But time moved on
    I got older too fast
So did those teenagers having such a good time
Back then when I was a boy
    The stars were now fading
    The music was changed
The theaters were being torn down
    Everything was rearranged

Seeing live acts became a special occasion
    The whole **** country
Caught up in the British invasion
    I became a survivor
    The music stayed alive
    Long live R & B
    I had my 45’s
