Rocky Mountains, High
Gazing out at the several pale faces in the crowd.
Glancing over at the fat one bside me, talking loud.
Then one comes up & tries to open my mouth.
I couldn't speak his language,
But my eyes told him what I was talking about.
He felt my shoulders, felt my arms, he even grabbed my behind.
And said to the fat one, "He'll do just fine."
Then I was led to a cell that held 2 men like me
And a young mother suckling her tiny baby.
Then we were tied together with a rope
That was attached to the back of a wagon.
I carried the baby so the mother wouldn't start lagging.
Finally we arrived at our destination,
The dwelling was immense & spacious.
With a tremendous field being tilled
By a multitude of people with dark faces.
Just then, an older woman came towards me,
Reaching for the baby, but its mother took her.
The pale beast jumped from the wagon,
Screaming at the mother as he violently shook her.
Then he took her baby.
We were untied, given burlap sacks and led to the field.
There was a man on a horse with a whip in one hand,
Apparently for those that were strong-willed.
We were forced to pick a white fluffy plant they called cotton,
One of the men refused,
So the man got off the horse and quickly dropped him
With a blow that rendered the man unconscious.
