Unconditional Love

How many people have professed to love…unconditionally
Then, three months later, to just up and leave


They said that they knew…deep down in their hearts
That you and that one would never, ever part
That the love that they share would always be strong
And, concerning that love…they would never do wrong

Still…it didn’t last long

~ Is love not eternal?

I’ve known, for so long, that I deeply love you
And love, between us, would always be true
As spring enters summer…and summer, the fall
From nature’s restful slumber…we’ve answered the call
And all of the good times life promised to me
Gave birth to the joy of this future I see

We didn’t mention to each other…the dreaded “L” word
Didn’t bring it up…for fear of sounding absurd
But we knew in our hearts that our love was true
Each night I only dreamt of spending tomorrow with you
