Inspired by the thread regarding "black conservatives", I recall how it is often stated that
anyone with succeeding economically/financially in life. Are married and are raising their kids in a relatively good manner and or are upstanding responsible citizens in the community are deemed a "sell-out" "traitor".... uncle tom. ...Or something to that affect. Remarks like that calls me to wonder if folks who feel persecuted for demonstrating that which I have stated in the above, more or less, if they know really what it means to be called an 'uncle tom', because the description I put forth doesn't qualify one as an uncle tom, in and of itself.

    So lets do this:

Identify someone(s) in near or distant memory/history be they famous or infamous; someone that if we don't know can readily research online and or in a book on 'your' shelf. Not the dude/chick down the street.

Who is the "uncle tom" (or 'tomasita'), by your estimation and,
what has he/she done and or said to have earned the title?

It is getting late, so I close here. I'll be back to share whom
I think earned the title of "uncle tom", but you don't have to
    wait for me.:)

    Peace and Blessings Brother RAPTOR,

I think, no matter the definition, most all of us could be called that at some point in a life.

We're all subject to the system, and have complied, in some shape, form, or fashion.

This "uncle tom" name calling ... is just that ... name calling ... a diversion, that limits and often prevents, any forward movement, discussion, etc.

Us calling each other names, because we've had to figure the best way to survive while living within a system created to defeate you ... is so very self-defeating to any possible agreement or unity of our people ... that it should be discouraged at all costs.

    Great Discussion!

To answer your question ... i guess you could call me an Uncle Tom (i've been called worse too, though i don't necessarily agree with the assessments) ... for having white advertisements on the site, welcoming all people to the site, requiring that everyone be respected regardless of race and a host of other thngs.

We're good at finding fault in each other, qualifying all to be called everything but a child of God.

    Love You!

Before I identify an uncle tom, let me began by saying, Destee, that
all I know about you is this is your chatforum. That's it. If you have
some bio somewhere around here, I've never investigated it. I will
not commit on your answer one way or the other, just want a straight
    up answer.

    Now then,

Do you most senserely believe yourself to be an uncle tom based on what
    how you've described?

"William Oneal" is an uncle tom. Why?:

He was an fbi operative who infultrated the
black panther party, gave the floor plans to
the chi-town police of the apartment that panther
party officials fred hampton was chillin'. He is
believed to have drugged a beverage that hampton
and others were drinking, making it easy for the
cops to shoot up the apartment killing bpp
members including fred hampton. Oneal is
also known for instigating beefs between the
bpp and other black organizations. He was
rewarded for his services to the tune of $30.3K.
The extra $300 was a bonus due to his role in
the assassanation of hampton and clark.

James a. harrison is an ucle tom. Why?:

His fbi code name was "at-1387-s", was a
comptroller of mlk's sclc and supplied info.
    to the fbi.

Earl Anthony was an uncle tom. Why?:

Anthony was an fbi informant agent-provocateur
against the bpp. he was tasked with intensifying
the beef between the bpp and sncc.

Andy anderson is an uncle tom. Why?:

We was an agent for the cia who was tasked
with going to spying on 'black radicals' as they
traveled to afrika, attempting to get them in
    trouble with the local authorities.

Stanley crouch is an uncle tom. Why?:

The so-called "social critic" is on the record
for making the following remarks regarding
the million women march of 1997 when they
    gave props to winnie mandela,

"how does anyone with any sense decide to end a
rally with a speech by winnie mandela? the
cold-eyed ex-wife of nelson is nothing less
    than a monster. A hate-filled tribalist who
    willingness to advocate murder,"....of who
and because of why, he glosses over...
    "...torchure and kidnapping taints her
    remarkible identity as a modern-day
    penelope..."

Anyone in the know about apartheid s. afrika
and its atrocities would scoff at the abord remarks
    made by this character.

Crouch also wore his 'tom' badge on his sleeve
when he went on the dyson talk show under the
arm pit of adl leader foxman (jew), supposedly
to rebut noi's work, "secret relationship between
blacks and jews" vol 2. Instead of attempting to
debunk anything in the book. He wasted his time
ridiculing farrakhan. Didn't wanna deal with the
    evidence.

Clarence Thomas because he doesn't support affirmative action and he thinks the blacks should just be oppressed and just takes whatever is handed to them.

No Brother RAPTOR ... i don't believe myself to be an uncle tom, or most any of the names i've been called over these many years out here on the Internet. Now, some names i've been called, i am ... such as Sster, Mother, friend, etc. ... but those are the good ones ... and i can easily agree.

Everything about me, my opinion of me, my actions, choices, most everything i've shared, can be found here at destee ... but this thread is about us calling other folk names ... (i offered myself up, since i've been called uncle tom and more). Black Folk have been calling me ugly names since the beginning of my Internet adventure ... for 14 long years ... and i was using myself to make a point.

It's easy to call someone else out of their name. It's easy to look at an isolated situation, circumstance, choice, consequence ... and determine another some ugly low down thing for experiencing such. It's easy to look inside another person's life and determine from the outside, that they should have done something different or better.

I'd like us to get past that. To realize that all of us have lives, choices, situations, circumstances, choices, consequences, etc., that if a public magnifying glass were put up to it ... some fault could be found ... some better way it could have been done ... some improvement in the process possible.

Instead of doing this to each other, why not just do it to yourself.

Where can you improve ... be less dependent on a system created to destroy you.

Instead of finding fault in the next Sister or Brother ... trying to put them into the "Uncle Tom" box ... when truth be told ... that same character assasination of your Brother or Sister ... would kill you too ... if you turned that proverbial gun on yourself.

My point is ... none of us are without fault, blame, or room for improvement.

    Love You!

Yes, to focus on one's own shortcomings, rather than someone else's ... would be a deviation.

I understand ... carry on ... and again, great discussion!

    Can Uncle Toms be Identified?

That is dificult in the Ipad Iphone age

Destee can only be called a vanguard liberator, to the global Black community, because there is absolutely no website that allows sisters and brothers to share pertinent, researchable and verifiable information to so many people of African descent
