Some people see the U.S. Constitution as:

    a) a charter of a (political) corporation
    b) a trust document
    c) a treaty (compact) establishing a (private) international assocation

Constitutions have their origins in Roman Civil Law.

A constitution, within the context of Roman Civil Law, was laws enacted by a Roman Emperor or Pope.
