    I like your smile.
After you died, the whole world cried about it. You are, Martin, the only Nova you never knew. You blew a century aside with dried up ink and postmodern speeches that now have mixed beats measured out like a soul food recipe.

I hold your words very carefully in my heart. For 30 years and counting people have been tapping on your grave. People have moved to Montgomery, Alabama just because you lived there. Husbands and wives have named their newborn infants after you. Libraries hold your works on high, schools dissect you, philosophers digest and reassemble thoughts you thought long since left behind. You laid the United States down when you entered the ground in a white flannel shroud. You constantly show me the strength of a pause......................................

So if I worship in lilly fields and count the bees in the fields pondering ways to save my people from our own self destruction--then, will I too be able to say, "I had a dream"?

Mourning in thy will I hope that someday I too will make my glorious way to meet a man like you. I know you're safe, and that you bid us all well. Sleep heavenly, Dr. King. I'll continually croon for you, my epiphany, my Civil Rights speaker, my Spoken Word preacher, and not to be forgotten muse.

You're absolutely right! Sometimes I wonder what we would say if we have only a few minutes to speak with such wonderful, life changing, spirit altering people....what would we say.....??

    Thanks for reading this flow.

    N2,

the brother was deep wasn't he. moved the masses with WORDS. see the correlation here? WORDS=POETS. your voice needs to be heard by more than just the page. even though I know everyone appreciates it. nice work.

Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King

I thought this was a fitting piece to pull back out of the "archives" here at Destee's in honor of Dr. King's Birthday!

    :)
