    as i read my book
i twist a lock of my hair
i twist it around in my finger
and then i let it go and feel it
    spring...snap back
    soft, yet coarse
    a habit of childhood
    twisting and turning
    while reading
    feeling the snap back
    the recoil
    the strength of my hair
    my hairdresser once told me
that my hair was like wire
    strong, it could take anything
    perms, colors, heat, chemicals
    put it on blast
    and my hair would just...do
    sorta like me
i do what i gotta do
    but through the years
i am no longer as strong as i used to be
there are a lot of weak spots
    in my spirit
parts of me that no longer
    snap back
but have been stretched beyond repair
    and although they still function
    they are definitely broken
and like my hairdresser once said
    my hair can take anything
i know now that it cannot
    so i have stopped
    with the
    perms, colors, heat, chemicals
and my hair is coming back into
    itself and it is getting
    stronger...like me
but as i read my book
and feel the coil, the softness
the twist and the snap back
i know that i am the same way
    now
    not above a little
    breakage
    but yet always, always
    on the mend

    This was beautiful!

You know , hair is very symbolic and
mostly for women of color, the hair is the extension of self! And you painted a wonderful portrait in words...
    Blessings On Your House!
