Put the pawns on the back row and the other pieces on the front row.. and
change the object of the game.. to protect the pawns..

Nice concept! I've thought of changing the game to make the Queen the mate piece instead of the King, but never thought of this.

Interesting thing is putting pawns in the back row actually weakens them as pawns are best able to defend themselves when they are out supporting each other.

They are completely defenseless from behind, so I suppose the strategy would be to get them out so they support themselves and protect their rears while attacking the enemy?

    I'm gonna try this one!

the concept is that the power of those other pieces exists to protect the pawns. The game changes from protecting the King to protecting the Pawns.

I'd say the same.. But his objective shifts from self preservation to protecting the people. He's no longer divine.. He moves from royalty to service..

Yep. I was thinking through the strategy though...if one player keeps his pawns lined up and only uses artillery to protect them, while the other uses artillery but still gets the pawns out in aggressive postures where they can protect (and reproduce) themselves....

Even in a str8 fight royalty vs. royalty...if it's a draw the side that made best use of the pawns early will prevail!

    Love this concept.
