Have you ever thought about the fact that you did not exist before you were conceived, and then born into the world? And that you have come into existence from mere nothingness?

Have you ever thought about how the flowers you see in your living room everyday come out of pitch black, muddy soil with fragrant smells, and are as colorful as they are?

Have you ever thought about how mosquitoes, which irritatingly fly around you, move their wings so fast that we are unable to see them?

Have you ever thought about how the peels of fruits such as bananas, watermelons and oranges serve as wrappings of high quality? And how the fruits are packed in these wrappings so that they maintain their taste and fragrance?

Have you ever thought about the possibility that while you are asleep a sudden earthquake could raze your home, your office, and your city to the ground and that in a few seconds you could lose everything of the world you possess? (This happened recently in southern Asia.)

Have you ever thought of how your life passes away very quickly, and that you will grow old and become weak, and slowly lose your beauty, health and strength?

Have you ever thought about how one day you will find the angels of death (appointed by God) before you, and that you will then leave this world?

Have you ever thought about why people are so attached to a world from which they will soon depart, when what they basically need is to strive for the hereafter?

Man is a being whom God furnishes with the faculty of thought. Yet, most people do not use this very important faculty as they should. In fact, some people almost never think. In truth, each person possesses a capacity for thought of which even he himself is unaware. Once man begins to use this capacity, facts he has not been able to realize until that very moment begin to be uncovered for him. The deeper he goes in reflection, the more his capacity to think improves, and this is possible for everyone. One just has to realize that one needs to reflect and then to strive hard.

Someone who does not think will remain totally distant from truths and lead his life in self-deception and error. As a result, he will not grasp the purpose of the creation of the world, and the reason for his existence on the earth. Yet, God has created everything with a purpose. This fact is stated in the Qur'an (Muslim holy book) as follows:

"We did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them as a game. We did not create them except with truth, but most of them do not know it." (sura al-Dukhan, ayats 38-39)

"Did you suppose that We created you for amusement and that you would not return to Us?" (sura al-Muminun, ayah 115)

Therefore, each person needs to ponder the purpose of creation, first as it concerns him himself, and then as it pertains to everything he sees in the universe and every event he experiences throughout his life. Someone who does not think will understand the facts only after he dies, when he gives account before God, but then it will be too late. God says in the Qur'an that on the day of account, everybody will think and see the truth:

"That day Hell is produced, that day man will remember; but how will the remembrance help him? He will say, 'Oh! If only I had prepared in advance for this life of mine!'" (sura al-Fajr, ayats 23-24)

The truth can be told to a person in many different ways; it can be shown by the use of details, pieces of evidence and by every means. Yet, if this person does not think over this truth on his own, sincerely and honestly with the purpose of comprehending the truth, all these efforts are useless. For this reason, when the messengers of God communicated the message to their people, they told them the truth clearly, and then summoned them to think.

While God has given us a chance in the life of this world to reflect and derive conclusions from our reflections, to see the truth will bring us great gain in our life in the hereafter. For this reason God has summoned all people – through His prophets and books – to reflect on their creation and on the creation of the Universe:

"Have they not reflected within themselves? God did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them except with truth and for a fixed term. Yet many people reject the meeting with their Lord." (sura al-Rum, ayah 8)

A man who reflects grasps the secrets of God's creation: the truth of the life of this world, the existence of hell and paradise, and the inner truth of matters. He gets a deeper understanding of the importance of being a person with whom God is pleased, and so he lives religion as is its due, recognizes God's attributes in everything he sees, and begins to think not according to what the majority of people demand, but as God commands. As a result, he takes pleasure from beauty much more than others do, and does not suffer distress from baseless misapprehensions and worldly greed.

These are only a few of the beautiful things a person who thinks will gain in the world. The gain in the hereafter of someone who always finds the truth by thinking is the love, approval, mercy and the paradise of God, which are above everything else…

This is a very enlightening post Brother! It makes one take a moment to reflect!

Have I thought enough on the right things? Have I even payed attention to the thoughts that goes through my mind? Have I thought about the purpose of my existance today? Have I reacted on most thoughts in a positive way?

So many thoughts go through the mind at one time. So many that one don't even realize that he or she are thinking them. To a point where one will foolishly deny that they have ever thought about it, because they may find it offensive and unmoral, or have not honestly realized it was there.

Reading this post, I realize how so much truth is transmitted through a thought. But how does one recognize which is truth and which has been sublimically transfered to the mind? Perhaps more thought will uncover its existance? :)

Very powerful post!:crying: Only if one will take the time to think about the message encrypticed in its texts.

Thank you for this most inspiring post!

i second that of purplemoons. Very enlightening piece. Reflection at times is alll i have and can sometimes spend a whole lot of time there. it gives me a since of control knowing whatever happens happens and if i stay strong to not cave in to what people or society thinks and believe what i feel is right for me and my family, i think everything will turn out all right. i thank you Aqil.

Here is more truth manifested in thought re: the true meaning of love and emotion:

Love is self-preservation. This is the true meaning of the word, and this statement cannot be disputed. Before you can love anybody else you must first love yourself, and loving yourself means that you have knowledge of the fact that your body is the temple of God’s spirit – its dwelling place – therefore you must keep it clean. This means that nothing should ever enter the temple (your body) that would pollute, contaminate, or harm it (e.g., alcohol, tobacco, chemicals, hard drugs, swine meat and other dead animal flesh), for, as Dr. George Carey says in his book, The Zodiac and the Salts of Salvation:

“The spirit of God, confined in a diseased, deficient, unhealthy brain – poisoned with the waste products of gluttony, wrong eating and wrong living – is utterly unable to produce harmonious thought. The lower brain (cerebellum), in an equally imperfect condition, cannot give birth to a vibration or current of energy that is as constructive as is necessary. For the most part the energy is used in a negative, destructive way. Thoughts are imperfect and spasmodic, and the acts which follow are equally so.”

He continues: "What has been termed 'positive emotion' is also ultimately detrimental. It has been generally accepted that so-called 'negative emotion' is injurious. Let us analyze both:

First let’s discuss the etymology of the word 'e-motion,' which is to flow forth, to go out from. The mind and body are concerned, as has been proved, with motion..."E-motion" then, implies disturbance, waste or loss of that which produces motion.

Any skilled machinist will agree…any unusual noise around machinery, be it ever so slight, is at once noticed, and a careful examination results immediately, for it is evident that something is wrong. Imperfect insulation of electrical wires, or any imperfection of the manufacture or the installation of the apparatus, results in a loss of electrical power. There is, then, nothing the matter with electrical energy (power). The trouble lies with the material, that with which energy works. Each and every part of a machine, be it ever so tiny, is constituted of substance, and it must be present, otherwise one of two things results...either no energy or power manifests, or it comes and goes, or is spasmodic in its action.

All of the above must be applied to the human body and the perfect circulation of energy by means of a perfect supply of material energy to work with. Then there can be no spasmodic action, no loss of energy. Emotion is the spasmodic action of energy. The balance point is quivering and the least thing brings it up or down. When the mind is balanced – the result of body and brain being balanced, which takes a tremendously long time to accomplish – it will be impossible to be emotional; for this typifies an unbalanced state.

In analyzing the two phases of emotion, we find that what has been interpreted as negative, is constrictive or contracting in nature; such as fear, sorrow, worry, etc., etc. Everything contracts, and the entire nervous system gets “tied up in a knot.” The solar plexus instantly contracts, resulting in none of the organs receiving sufficient energy. The supply of energy is at once limited. (It should be understood, however, that these emotions retard and sometimes actually shut off energy temporarily…and death may result.)

It has been thought that joy is always beneficial, because of the fact that it seems to stimulate one physically as well as mentally. That such is not the case will become clear to those who have gained some understanding of the work done in the body by the chemical laborers (i.e., the mineral salts in the body). Remember that there is no quickening or retarding of energy in a balanced body. The heart neither stops beating with fear, nor moves spasmodically and furiously from sudden joy or the passion of so-called 'love.' Love is ease, balance, harmony, for it is understanding of God's Law, hence living the law.

Therefore, as a result of the impulse of joyous emotion, the brain strives to generate and liberate throughout the body an extra amount of energy. Or it endeavors to quicken the energy that it has. If it were a normal condition, or permanent state, when every cell is vibrating at the highest rate, there would be no reaction of a negative nature, for there would be no wear and tear, or any spasmodic flow of high-tension current. The effect is identical with that produced by the crossing of wires. A higher current is generated, with the result that the fuse is burned out. (It is true that joy has been known to kill, and this is proof of the sudden and intense strain brought to bear on nerves imperfectly supplied with material. They sometimes snap.)

The point I am endeavoring to make clear is that all emotions that have been considered as beneficial strain the heart and the nerves. This is physiologically true, which is why what we call 'positive emotion' is ultimately detrimental, and what we call 'negative emotion' is injurious..."

"A point equilibrated on all sides remains at rest, for the very reason that it is endowed with motion." (Eliphas Levi)

In other words, one does not love with the heart, one loves with the mind. The sole purpose of the heart is to pump blood. To see with the heart is to believe; to see with the mind is to know...
