The Florida police department handling the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen by a self-appointed neighborhood watch leader admitted to ABC News tonight that investigators missed a possible racist remark by the shooter as he spoke to police dispatchers moments before the killing.
The admission comes a day after the Justice Department announced that it has launched an investigation of the slaying of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman last month as a possible hate crime.
On a tape of one of Zimmerman's 911 calls the night of the shooting, he is heard saying under his breath what soun

    Peace Keita,

he will be arrested.. trial will be held in an all-white jurisdiction.. he will either plead or be charged with a lessor crime than the 1st degree murder that he is guilty of.. if it goes to trial.. the trial, he will be convicted.. and black folks will cheer.. His family will file a Civil lawsuit against the city.. the city will settle for some undisclosed amount.. the killer will spend a few years in protective custody before being released early for good behavior. Same as Oscar Grant's killer. 2 months later black folks will forget all about him.. 4 or 5 months later another young innocent black man will be killed by a cop or security guard or something.. and black folks will be "shocked" and "outraged" like it hasn't been happening everyday for hundreds of years.. like the drug and gun infested streets don't already run with the blood of black people all across the country.

I think that white folks are trying to distance themselves from the killing by pushing the idea that he was hispanic....which really means nothing at all because there are a lot of white people who speak Spanish as if we don't know that the Spaniards are white. Personally speaking, I think that we are too passive about ish. We got too much Rodney King in our blood when that's the last thing that we should have in us. I equally think that with the advent of the computer and the technological age of communication that we are in, that this is the perfect time for us to be raising some hell in this country!! We need an army of knowledgeable young people instead of what we presently have.

Right now we shouldn't want to hear from no Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Mfume or none of them that are locked up in their thinking and the direction that we should be moving in. We can't even rely on the mosque or the churches anymore because we don't know which ones are being courted or paid off by those in power. We have to be critical thinkers and at some point begin to either hold our people accountable or ask them to move out of the way. Those that don't want to move out of the way can be moved, so I ain't sweatin that part. The point is that we have to be just as proactive about our people as we see the rest of the world are in regards to their people.

Very true, also even if the Hispanics in question are not white (many are white, black, native american and sometuimes a mixture of all three or least two of those races), they live in this society and have adopted this racist society prejudices against black people. I know some on this site do not like the white anti racist writer Tim Wise but he wrote a (in my opinion) very good essay about Trayvon Martin that deals with the nonsense claim that because Zimmerman is hispanic its somehow not related to white racism, he writes:

Oh, and when you abuse that ill-gotten authority (Zimmerman is a neighbourhood watch captain) and take the life of a young black man in the process, you don’t get to be taken seriously when you swear that your actions couldn’t have been racist because, after all, you’re Latino (this being the latest fanciful insistence of Zimmerman’s family). Dear merciful Lord, what is that supposed to prove?...........

It should be especially unsurprising that Zimmerman would have internalized racially-biased assumptions about black males, given the society in which he (and we) reside. And although this hardly lets him off the hook — one must be responsible for one’s own actions in any event, no matter the social contributors to those actions — it is worth noting a few things about the milieu in which this wannabe police officer was operating. In other words, Zimmerman’s culpability, while total and complete, is not solitary.

After all, we are a society in which research has shown quite conclusively that local newscasts overrepresent blacks as criminals, relative to their actual share of total crime, and overrepresent whites as victims, relative to our share of victimization.

A society in which other studies have shown that these racially-skewed newscasts have a direct relationship to widespread negative perceptions of black people. Indeed, a substantial percentage of anti-black racial hostility can be directly traced to media imagery, even after all other factors are considered.

A society in which the disproportionate incarceration of black males — especially for non-violent drug offenses, which they are no more likely (and often even less likely) than whites to commit — feeds the perception that they are so treated because they are dangerous and must be kept at bay.

A society in which criminality is so associated with blackness that whites literally and almost instantly connect the two things in survey after survey, and study after study, even though we are roughly 5 times as likely to be criminally victimized by another white person as by a black person.

A society in which anti-black racism has been so long ingrained that not only most whites, but also most Latinos and Asian Americans, demonstrate substantial subconscious bias against African Americans in study after study of implicit racial hostility (and even about a third of blacks themselves demonstrate anti-black racism).

George Zimmerman was very simply taught to fear black men by his society, and he learned his lessons well.
