Author Jan Miles has revived the Jim Crow-era travelers' guide for black Americans, with a 21st century twist

... Think such a book is a historical relic, long past its prime or usefulness? Well, Jan Miles, a New Orleans-based grant writer, begs to disagree. And judging by the sales and attention she’s garnered with The Post Racial Negro Green Book since it was first released in November of 2017, many black Americans agree.

Black Americans And Our Attachment To Sh-tty Cities

First, let’s address the notion that moving is simply out of the question because Black people can’t “afford” it. Correction:

  • We can’t afford to live in cities like Erie, PA, where 47% of the Black population lives at or below the poverty line.
  • We can’t afford to live in cities like Peoria, IL, where Black unemployment is hovering around 20%.
  • We can’t afford to live in cities like Minneapolis, MN, where the white median household income is nearly twice as high as it is for Black households.
  • We can’t afford to live in cities like Milwaukee, WI, where only 14% of the Black population holds a four-year degree ...

Racism isn’t dead. Black Americans still need a ‘Green Book.’



If you watch the movie “Green Book,” you might leave the theater thinking that the people who made the movie are convinced that U.S. racism died one idyllic snowy Christmas Eve in the warm glow of a Bronx apartment in 1962, when black pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) accepted an invitation to dinner from his Italian American driver, Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen).
