Melchisadek, Jesus, Enoch/Tehuti/Hermes, Ausar, Krishna --- there is a certain degree of grayness as to whether any of them existed as chronicled literally in holy books. This only matters to those who those who deify, and focus, on the mortal messenger, rather than the message --- or, to those who seek to discredit the message.

What matters most is whether or not the message resonates within your being.

Maybe, that is by Divine design. Clearly, all the above sages I mentioned, as chronicled in holy books, intentionally maintained an air of _mystery_ around both themselves and their message.
