Black Entertainment : Toronto: ’12 Years a Slave’ Leaves Another Festival Audience Shaken

In all due candor and honesty, if even the first elected African President doesn't always get props, then the very notion of other talented folk winning Oscars etc. representing truly changed attitudes etc., among this nation's white status quo, reflect grand illusions/leading to wrongheaded conclusions...

The "I too am an American" ideal gave way to what the Urban Rebellions/Black Power era etc. gave them too, i. e., by the way of undeniable reality checks/wake up calls...

So let us not dwell on past (old) victories...

Also let us hope our younger generations will reflect our examples...

All props to the producers etc. of the aformentioned black film too...

Educator copies of 12 Years a Slave (both the film, and the 1853 memoir on which it is based) will soon be available to public high schools in the U.S. These toolkits include a DVD of the film (edited for teen audiences, with a disclaimer and parental-consent forms); a Penguin paperback copy of the book; an accompanying study guide; and a letter from McQueen. After getting the necessary approval to add the film to their curriculum — teachers can go to www.12yearsaslave.com to gain access to the educator’s kit.
