What is topfreedom?
Topfreedom - or Topfree Equality - movement believes that women should be allowed to go topfree in any public place where men are allowed to remove their shirts, without threat of harassment, arrest, or other legal, or political deterrent.

The term 'topfree' is used instead of 'topless' because the latter has sexual connotations. Topfreedom is not a sexual movement but an equal rights issue - actually going topfree de-emphasizes the sexuality of the female
breasts.

A woman wearing traditional clothing in Southern Ethiopia. Many societies have no cultural proscriptions on females going bare-breasted.

Should women go top-free in public?:SuN030:

Our basic claim

The Topfree Equal Rights Association - Our basic claim

http://www.topfree.ca/general.html
Our basic claim is that women deserve equal rights. We do not suggest that women or men should go about with bare breasts. That is every individual's decision. We do believe that since men may choose to do so in many situations, women must also be able to at least in the same situations. Without penalty of any kind.

Women pay severely for North America's leering punishment of their breasts. Many find themselves the object of unwanted and unwarranted attention from men in positions of power over them. Many have debilitating body image problems, hating the breasts on their own, unique bodies. Many undergo hazardous cosmetic surgery to conform to some non-existent standard. To please others, many wear bras that confine and hurt and may be harmful. Many are afraid to breastfeed, especially with others present.

Why do many women want to let their breasts out of the prison our society has put them in? They want to be comfortable. They want the convenience. They want to further their well-being. They want ownership and control of their own breasts.

They deserve equal treatment under the law.

Breast taboo
http://www.007b.com/breast_taboo.php
In North America and in many other westernized countries woman's breasts are a taboo: they are supposed to be hidden. Exposing woman's breasts in public is considered shameful and inappropriate ("indecent exposure") even on beaches or while breastfeeding. In other words, breasts - or at least the nipple - are supposed to be covered at all times.

Parents tend to teach their children the same way, and many times children don't see a single naturally nude breast (apart from their own) while growing up. It is totally possible that a child grows up in North America and never sees a baby breastfeeding!

However, while exposing breasts in public is a 'no-no', children often see breasts (although never the nipples) displayed in a sexually provocative fashion on television, in print media and at magazines. Breasts are emphasized big time in the media and advertisements, who signal to our young people that breasts are a sexual object, and only beautiful when big and protruding

i would think that with all of the problems facing us as a people, going barebreasted shouldn't be that important, ladies keep your breast covered and let's work on some real problems...thank you.

MEN ARE NOT THE ONES DEMANDING THAT WOMEN SHOULD BE BARE BREASTED OR TOP-FREE. WOMEN THEMSELVES ARE SAYING THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHTS TO DO SO. IF YOU DO NOT WANT WOMEN TO HAVE THE RIGHTS TO BE TOP-FREE IN PUBLIC AND THEN MAYBE YOU HAVE A REAL SERIOUS PROBLEM. :teach:
