    I'm new here...just wanted to jump in with both feet...i will give you a lil background on me: I am a 27 year old black man from the streets of Watts, CA...I am raising a teenage son who is 12 now and slowly falling into the trails of my footsteps in these streets..I have been in and out of jail since age 9 and have been in a gang since age 8...anyhow...this is my first drop here:

    You are cold, you are lonely; you feel forsaken
    You feel as if all the good in your life has been taken;
    I know exactly how you feel; you know that I do,
    I have been in your shoes and felt that way too.

    The days are so long and so are the nights;
    You can no longer distinguish between the sun and the lights;
    Everything is solid and there is no fresh air;
    Everything you see reminds you that you are truly there.

    The coldness is heavy and weighs heavy on your soul;
    The solitude is ominous and soon takes its toll;
    It’s hard to remain strong, even harder to remain sane
    When it becomes so overwhelming that you forget your own name.

    I really wish that words could heal even some of your pain,
    But I know all too well that comforting thoughts are always in vain.
    I know just how you feel; you know that I do,
    I have been in your shoes and felt that way too.

    Perhaps if I tell you that “one day” will soon make its way;
    and it will all be behind you and it will all be okay,
    Perhaps thoughts of tomorrows yet to be will carry you through;
    I know they will because you are me and I once was you.

    Change is inevitable even when every tick of the clock
    Seems to move backwards and time seems to stop.
    Believe that this situation is just a small bump in the road;
    Hang on to courage on this ride and don’t you ever let go.

    So few understand what happens behind the walls;
    Young boys become men when a survival will calls.
    I know all about that struggle, I had to fight just like you;
    I know just what you’re feeling because I feel it too.
