Somewhere between paradise and diaster
Occupation
Teacher
In the midst of a mix of maybes
Never been so utterly confused
Today my past meet my future
And the contrast was so vast
One was full of sweet familiarity
As comfortable as an old sneaker
And one was new and exciting
Like a pair of swanky stilettos

Looking at the delight of my youth
I reflected on all that came before
You've held my hand since i was four
And my heart since I was fourteen
You taught me what made a kiss french
We matured into adulthood side by side
I ran to you first when I got eve's curse
The first to know me in the biblical sense
You entrusted me with your seed to nourish
And for while we even played house together
But we walked away from that without a vow
However something kept pulling us back together
You continued to be the wind beneath my wings
Never allowing me to lose me focus or determination
Even if that meant stepping off the scene occassionally
Cause you refuse to be the hindarance to my success
But this last time we stay apart just a second too long
For I have grown too much to fit back in my old sneakers

So dear sweet past I'd like you to meet my future
I know it looks nothing like the me you use to know
But in this stage of life I had to mature and develop
Like the caterpilliar evolves to a beautiful butterfly
I changed from that homie to a sophisticated lady
I thank you for helping me to get to this place
But our union has finally come to a lasting end
For we no longer walk with the same even stride
So I am walking away from you now while i can
Knowing you will allow me to go without a fight
For you have always wanted the very best for me
I am sorry that it's no longer your hand I can hold
But don't worry I won't ever let your memory die
For every time I accomplish a brand new success
I will be looking over my shoulder for you
