    Today in Heaven
    Four black girls
Three of them young teenagers actually
    Playing with the angels, smiling
    Giggling as young girls do

    Had they remained on earth
They would be in their early 50's
    Perhaps still living in Birmingham
    Children of their own
Would have listened to their tales of the struggle

But a hate filled bomb sent them to God
    As they met to pray
In a church on 16th Street
    Like Joan of Arc
They died just before the pain
No need for them to suffer
    God is good like that

I'm sure they don't even know
    The earthly headlines of Yesterday
    "1963 Church Bomber Convicted"
    But today in heaven
    Four young black girls
    Denise McNair, Carole Robertson,
Addie Mae Collins and Cynthia Wesly
    Are smiling a little wider
    Laughing a little louder
    Playing a little harder
    Today in heaven

Thank you for this ... although I was thinking that ... "Justice delayed IS Justice denied" -- you have made me realize the true meaning of our connection with 'the Beyond' with the depth of your words.

That single act of violence was the one that touched every black person in america... even those like me, miles and miles away in big cities safe from the dogs, hoses, billy clubs, ropes, and bullets. Now those of us who remember can smile with the girls. Their ordeal is over - as we continue the struggle. Thank you Poets.
