Ossie I wanted to meet you
I had envisioned it in my mind
    You shaking my hand saying
Good Job son, that film shows you got a great mind

I Wanted to talk with you
Hear your stories from long ago
Ask you to give me some tips
About keeping my woman for 40 years or mo

I wanted to invite you into my life
and Invite you into my heart
    But your gone now Ossie

Now I sit here and cry
Because you were a star in my filmmaking sky

A man whom I admired since my youth
May God Bless Ruby Dee and your family
And I send special blessings with this tribute

    Mr. Ossie Davis

that piece is an ode 2 som1 who was truly deserving. it wuz no accident ossie davis was chosen 2 eulogize malcolm @ his funeral, & the wonderful job he did 4eva made him 1 of my favorites.

i want 2 relate a story about this man which reveals a snapshot of his character.

during my 2n year of undergraduate, i was lucky enuf 2 b invited 2 become a member of the black history month committee (on a predominantly yt campus no less), which i accepted. naturally, our budget was limited, about $12,000.00 a year, which sounds like a lot, but spread out over an entire month of programming really isn't. in my 2nd year of serving on the committee, we learned ossie davis & ruby dee were available to perform a stage act from a show they were doing on PBS @ the time.

they both came, & were the highlight of that entire month's program, but that's not all. prior 2 the show, all the committee members had an opportunity 2 go backstage & meet both of them. as gr8 an admirer of him as i wuz, of course, i relished the chance, but once i got backstage, i jus frooze & stared @ him. do u kno what he did? this man noticed this insecure, slightly embarassed lowly undergrad staring @ him, & calmly walked over 2 me, extended his hand, & said: hello brother, it's gonna b alright . i never 4got his humility. of all the ppl we scheduled - & many were less established & had less recognizable names than he did, none displayed the sincerity or humility of this great man. he will b sorely missed

Our honorable bro. will definitely be missed.

He was one of the examples that all men, blk, wht, asn, etc. should follow, cuz he loved himself, his people, & his woman unfalteringly.

Very beautiful tribute 2 a very beautiful individual.

    Peace.
