I never learned how to tie a tie...
I know that that seems like a trivial or menial thing for a girl to learn,
but there is a lot that goes into that.
I never watched my father tie his tie before going to work
or later on when he dressed in his dress uniform for drill...
then before I knew it...he was gone.
I never had a grandfather to watch get ready for church on Sundays
or tie one up on his way out to take grandma to dinner...
    just because she's there.
Never had an uncle to emmulate or brothers that got jiggy one night
to take their girl to a swanky set...the lil thugs that they are,
they never had anyone to teach them how to do it anyway.
I have a step father that wears them all the time,
but I never get to witness him putting it on...
sit at his feet, hug his legs and chat with him,
    while he loops and tightens...
all I want to do is sit by, float in his colonge, and watch this action with innocent wonder
and learn...watch the suave moves of a man finishing his ensamble.
I wonder if I will ever have a boyfriend that will shed his FUBU and Karl Kani
to don a suit and tie to take me out for a night out on the town
and I could watch and learn from him...
or will my wedding day come, and my groom come rushing in
the last minute needing me to help
    finish his knot,
and I will only be able to stand stupefied and incapable...
crushed while he turns to my mother, his mother, or a bridesmaid
    for completion,
while he looks at me over their shoulder realizing
that there is so much that I don't know...
    so much I've never known.
I never learned how to tie a tie...
and my life is full of loose ends
    because of it.

    StarG~

I am vibin with you on this here! It's as if you were feeling what I feel sometimes. But as a good (male) friend of mine said to me last night, "You only know what you know or have been exposed to. Just continue to learn as you go."

    Thanks sis, I needed this.
