    They called him "Three-Round Joe."
Cuz that's just how much time
    He would spend and bestow
    On any cocky, soft-gloved foe

He was moving up the ranks
    To be Boxing's best
He'd already beat all the minors
And had dared all the rest...

    He was a rugged-lookin' man
But mighty fine in some Black & Tan
    The former by color
    And the latter by thread
    With matching Stacey Adams
    Gracing each long-legged tread
    A full-length fur coat
    With diamonds on each cuff
    And another at his throat

Oh, yes, he lived just as hard as he fought
    Never realizing,
He'd pay for what he'd bought
    In time loss
    And false gloss

At home, he had a wife and 2 small kids
For many nights, their heavy, sleepy eyelids
Finally closed, just weary from waiting
    Their innocent, open hearts elating
When they heard the sound of his voice
But, usually, he made the wrong choice
Between his family and having fun
But, retribution had only just begun
To set Her eyes on him
    So, the Divine Nemesis
    Showed him the bliss
    He'd missed...

    ...On a rainy, star-less night
Driving home, just leaving his lover
His car went into a skid
    And he, half-drunk,
    Just couldn't recover
So, the car careened into a ditch
Bounced and, then, hit a tree
    Trapped by wood and metal
    He just couldn't break free
    ....And, finally, passed out

    But a passer-by stopped
And then went to seek aid
    He awoke in the hospital
And couldn't move where he laid
    ...Paralyzed from the neck down
    Fancy clothes traded for a
    Two-stringed medical gown

When released, the wife took him home
(All the doctors said any normal life was through)
And then began the pay-back, Karma was due..

...You see, the wife had made friends
    With a respectful, gentleman neighbor
And it had been he, not her husband
    Who had helped her labor
    Through the hurt and pain
    Of being alone
    And, she, unwittingly, became softened
    By the kindnesses he'd shown...

Well, the neighbor was falling too
But, he knew what she'd been through
AND what she NOW had to also suffer
But, he continued to help where he could
Never over-stepping his bounds, just like he should
And, in time, neither could deny their feelings
So, the wife asked for a divorce
And Joe had no defense to say, "No."
But, the wife still wouldn't treat him low
    So....

The nice neighbor man added a room
Onto the back of the house
So that she could still care for him there
But, no longer would THEIR home, he'd share

    And Joe lies there now
    Bathed and fed and groomed....bed-bound
    Hearing every happy, love-filled sound
From what, once, was his family and house
His children calling another man, "Daddy"
And making love to his former spouse....

Yes, They called him "Three-Round Joe."
Many said, he coulda been a contender
    And that may be so
But, now he wishes he'd been a better defender.....Of his own home.

    whoaaaaaaaa really though?
    what a tale!
I cant imagine the kind of torture that would be to have to hear my family enjoying the love and affection of another and knowing I drove them there  lol
its a lesson that we shouldnt take advantage of these things that really matter :)
    what a read! :read:
