    I woke up this morning
-mourning a loss that can’t compare
trying to figure my skin, shape and hair…

    I wondered…
Who are those that make up my family tree?
-those who were that help define me…
Why is my skin the color of
    -chocolate candy?…
was there somebody along the line
    -who looked just like me?…

    He said: his father’s father
    -my paternal great-grandfather
married a girl from the South Pacific Islands
-so much younger than he, she called him sir…
    She said: her mother’s mother
    -my maternal great-grandmother
lived in Oakhill and her last name was Grace
    -amazing… but what happened before,
I desperately wanted to know much more
-true knowledge & understanding of who I am
    -I needed to embrace!

    Is that Mama or Dear
    -in my face?…
    Madea or Big Mama
    -in my voice?…
    Daddy or Granddaddy
    -in my ways?…
Who helped define me from past,
to my presence, in these days?

    I wondered farther…
Riding, outstretched arm out the window of the car
    Catching wind beneath my wings
-like I’m soaring wide and far … feels so good…
I wonder if I could be kin to them flying Africans
-who chanted Allah u Akbar God is Great
And flew straight home to Africa from these very ports
-with no sweet chariot coming forth?

Are there stories and accounts of me, my people
-our strength and Divine gift of originality
etched into walls beneath African sands archeologists uplift…
Are those my family portraits in hieroglyphs?
Am I part of a disconnected dynasty of majesty by gone
-of pharaohs and queens who sat on thrones?

    I wondered beyond…

Sitting with my king in a sanctuary of birds
-We try to decipher their words, those sweet melodies
like some sacred lullaby that make the spirit fly to The Most High…
-embracing their language –like Solomon back in the day

Am I of Hiram, a master architect?
-did I build pyramids in Egypt, hue structures in mountains?

Am I a latter generation of Jesus
-who resurrected the spiritual dead, gave sight to the blind
-who turned scriptural water into intoxicating wine?

Was home some Garden of Eden where @ my feet
-was a continuous flow of pure rivers and fountains?

Am I an Ancient… a member of the Us, the We
-those with Allah when He said let there Be?

Who I am is what I want to see,
    -feel… know for real

    So… I wondered
    I wondered farther
    I wondered beyond…

I suppose I can only rewind back in time
-in this mental time machine in the mind to such a degree
Cause in this mourning I experienced this morning
-The Coming of Fard removed the façade and
I began to see closure with the exposure
of the light of truth He gave to Elijah

-As the Sun rises in the West there’s ease
    for the grief and nostalgia

    A heavy load
    -lifted from my chest

    More meaning
    -with each breathe

Yes, it finally dawned on me…
    -while standing in line,
in my time on a continuous timeline
the answers I seek can only come from He
-Who is, was & will always be

No matter how far back I try to track,
    what is exact is that
    I came from The Source
behind any force w/n forefathers & mothers

    I come from God
    and True knowledge of Him
is True knowledge of me :)

    peace
