Phillis Wheatly, in her poems she prayed.
While Frances Harper wrote of slave Auctions made.
Paul Laurence Dunbar had very few things.
~just a crust of bread and a coner to sleep in.
And Langston Hughes told "why the caged bird sings."
~which expalins why he had freedom within.
And then there's Claud McKay, who wrote about state, city and town,
She told us how to make that money and get your "Boogy Down"
Jean Toomer learned to "Walk" again while her "Momma" watched with "Patience"
And Arna Bontemps described the key ingredients of the perfect "Reconnaissence"
RoberT Hayden toLD of the "Middle Passage" and the journey made therein
Then Nikki Giovanni told the "Brothers" to stop being ******* and start being men.
Imanu A. Baraka said he needed us "Beautiful Black Women" to strengthen our black men.
While Don L. Lee had enough strength to come "Back Again" and be black again.
Sonia Sanches wrote "To All Brothers", saying the word "******" did not make her cum.
And June Jordan wrote to the "American Negros" and reminded us where we came from.
Johari Amini said it besth with "Brothers, brothers, everywhere and not a one for sale"
But, Lary Neal sitll believes that America is a black mans Hell.
Last but not least we have that "Phenominal Woman" who rises (in my opinion) above all the rest. She's done it all thrugh heartache and heartbrake, and passed all of lifes test.
Through the spoken work she has expressed, its not the shade of your skin
But that our heritage is black and that is what make us
