    THIS BROWN CELL

I’m lying on the bed, wondering should I get up
because the world hiccups on ebony dreams
Their faces squint up like their sniffing imitation whiskey
High off of anticipating that brown love could never be
And sometimes I think I might agree

Somehow we’ve managed to separate each other by the air that we breathe
The love we need for growth and unity
Comparing what’s a better way, education or the streets
Got degrees because I knew Shakespeare before I began to learn me
Was taught that chocolate dipped in knowledge paved the road to be free
And urban street college was a part of an angry Negro league

We search the cultures of Africa for some truth
But hell, their trying to get here too
We look to the past in order to continue our path
They laugh, watch them nig*as tap dance back to the motherland
Without any future plans for their own communities

    Let society ruin their men
So they’ll use their women like masters
Needing belly warmers for his own selfish comfort diminishing her worth
because he’s still searching for the man in the nig*a that still lives
Our women hustlin’ *** for spinners and a dime bag
Searching for the crown her daddy was never able to give

See there is no difference in the lives we choose to lead
You dodge bullets and prison trips
Selling cocoa mixed with ebony tears for dope
Master hand me a noose so I can hang our hope
Nig*er work harder or I’ll give you a pink slip
Proud of loose grips form fake ivory grins that sunk slavery ships

There is this glass between us
And on each side we viciously shatter one another’s dreams until faith bleeds jealousy
    Envious of one another
Comparing who spits the brownest chit
When we could unite and embrace at our Afro- Pics

Let our sisters know she's not a whore wrapped in trojan dollar bills
but an ebony sky who carries the sun to a brothers heart when life betrays him
A priceless jewel who gives knowledge and strength to her son on how to be successful

Let our brothers know his tone is not a clone of a bad poker deal
but the color of a rainbow only the gifted minds could reveal
A teacher to our sisters, from her first recital of the alphabet
from the arms that cradle our revolutionary backflips

We need to realize that the seasonal cotton that grows tall,
is a symbol of black angels in flight doing a unity roll call
    I'm present! Are you?

You presented the tone of brown as the gem that it is, not something that has been unfortunately soiled. This was so chocked full of meaning poet, very much enjoyed.
