I was a seed dropped from the tree fallen onto fertile
soil between the deep embedded roots of my father
Awaiting the soil to open as the sun tans me in fall;

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

As the clouds make room for the rains to come I open my
shell to drink from nature’s well so that I can find strength
To dig my roots, my roots, my roots into the soil that covers
me under the deep embedded roots of my father.

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

I expand my territory stretching my arms to discover the wonders
Of life as I build my foundation resting my feet deep into the ground
and I push up through the soil to begin my life free from darkness;

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

My arms are wide and my back is strong as I grow from a seed into
A full grown tree with my roots dug deep into the soil and the leaves
Of wisdom, emotions, intellect, success and failures grow from my
Branches providing shade for the budding seeds in my fingertips

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

My adult roots are deeper as my bark strengthens my stance while
the seeds produced from my struggles through the season’s hang on
to my branches and i hold them tightly for it’s not time to let go

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

My roots are deep but now loosened by the soil for the weight of life
Has embraced me; my arms are growing tired from the everyday struggle
To survive; wounds of heart shape commitment of love cut deep into my
Frame have never healed and now become the cause for my demise

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

I no longer stand erect my back not as strong and I begin to lean to the
Left as I let go of another set of seeds holding tightly to my grasp but
Now I can’t hold like before for the years have taken their toll on me;

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

The leaves have gone; no longer do they grow as before and the seeds
Have stopped producing; I smile to see this one empty land that held
Me alone now full and blossoming into a forest of seeds once held my me;

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

I feel my roots no longer dug deep into the soil for the weight of balance
Has taken its toll and I see that my time of standing has ended; I wonder
If a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound? And I look up to the sky
So blue not turning gray move further away form me as I lay my branches
Upon the soil that once covered me in darkness;

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and I wonder
Will today be the day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven?

The rains come for the last time today; I feel the moisture all over me and
The soil once strong and dry has now become moist allowing me the time
To sink into its mixture as the forest around me lifts their branches high
To catch the drops and quench their thirst from the libations from heaven;

And I look up into a sky so blue now turning gray and smile for today
Is the last day my thirst is quenched by libations from heaven…
